To Catch A Leaf by Kate Collins is the 12th book in the “Flower Shop” mystery series. Publisher: Obsidian (Penguin), November 2011
I’ve finally agreed to tie the know! But it’s a murder mystery involving my assistant that has my stomach in knots.
Flower shop owner Abby Knight is aglow with happiness now that she’s officially engaged to her longtime beau, Marco Salvare. Nothing can possibly dampen her joy-not a new dent on her beloved Covette, nor her future mother-in law’s micromanaging of her wedding.
Then wealthy dowager Virginia Newport is killed, and Abby’s assistant Grace Bingham is left a hefty sum of money, making her the prime suspect. But while questioning Constance’s relative and staff, Abby and Marci find that everyone has a shady past and wants a piece of the fortune. The plot thickens when they stumble upon mysterious stolen art and a missing cat, all part of an elaborate heist. Before Abby can throw her bouquet, she’ll have to save her friend and throw a killer and a thief in jail.
This series keeps getter better and better every time I read the next book. In this caper, Abby gets to “snoop”, oops, I mean investigate on behalf of her friend, Grace when she becomes the prime suspect in her wealthy friend’s death. Not only does Abby have to split her time running her shop, investigating a murder, but also she has to navigate her upcoming wedding preparations and her fashion consultant cousin. I love this series and this was the best one yet. This smartly written mystery kept me turning the pages as fast as I could read with non-stop action and fun. The gang is back with Abby’s mom and her artwork; Grace and her quotes and Jillian being Jillian who makes me laughs. I enjoyed watching Abby become a stronger and more confident person in her investigative approach and in dealing with her family dynamics. This is the best book yet in this fabulously entertaining and charming series and I look forward to the next adventures with the team from the Flower Shop series.
