Fatal Scandal by Marie Force is the 8th book in the “Fatal” romantic suspense series. Publisher: Carina Press, January 2015
As a new year dawns in the capital city, dual scandals rock the Metropolitan Police Department—and Lieutenant Sam Holland is right in the middle of them. Chief Farnsworth is catching heat for the way he handled a recent homicide investigation, and Detective Gonzales is accused of failing to disclose an earlier connection to the judge who decided his custody hearing.
When Gonzo’s fight for his child turns deadly and he has a shaky alibi, Sam must defend two of her closest colleagues. All while her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano, settles into his new office at the White House.
Nick begins to wonder if the president is using him for a political boost, and his worries mount over a complication in the plans to adopt Scotty at a time when Sam is being put through the wringer by the always-rabid DC press corps. As the evidence against Gonzo piles up, Sam suspects someone is gunning for her—and her team.
All I can say is “wow.” This fast-paced and action packed tale came at me from the first page to a conclusion that left me wanting more. With her department under fire, Sam will do everything in her powers to find the real perpetrator who is trying to destroy them one by one. The author does a great job in making me feel like I’m part of the action as Sam does her thing and Nick does his and both of them taking care of the home front. The love they share is evident in every scene that they are cast in and I especially enjoy the camaraderie Sam has with her colleagues. In this drama, we are pulled in many emotional ways and that tense scene where the killer comes a calling, had me on pins and needles. This was a well-executed and written story and I loved seeing everyone pitch in and I’m so happy that a resolution came about in the end. This series continues to get better and better with each book delivered by the author and this one is the best one yet in this terrific series.
