Cloud in my Coffee by Julie Mulhern is the third book in the “Country Club Murders” mystery series. Published by Henery Press, May 2016
Wake Up and Smell the Coffee
When Ellison Russell is nearly killed at a benefactors’ party, she brushes the incident aside as an unhappy accident. But when her house is fire-bombed, she’s shot at, and the person sitting next to her at a gala is poisoned, she must face facts. Someone wants her dead. But why? And can Ellison find the killer before he strikes again?
Add in an estranged sister, a visiting aunt with a shocking secret, and a handsome detective staying in her guesthouse, and Ellison might need more than cream in her coffee.
Why is someone trying to kill Ellison? Thus begins a fun romp of circumstances that had me laughing at the various situations Ellison finds herself involved. The frantic pace and comfortable tone of this tale leads to mischief and mysteries abound and it’s up to Ellison to cut the cream off the top and get rid of the last drop. I like how this mystery was set-up with clues here and there and everywhere with a bit of intrigue that kept me moving forward as I had to know who did what to whom and why, in a book that I could not put down until it was all said and done. The author does a brilliant job of capturing the essence of the 70’s from the dialogue to the outfits in this well-written novel. With a family like hers, what more can Ellison hope for? This was a fun book that boasts a quirky cast of characters, witty and engaging banter, and was also delightfully entertaining. A great read and I can’t wait for my next book in this terrific series.
