Hey Journal,

Since me and my dad moved to Seaside Cove, things have been super amazing. I’m learning the bed-and-breakfast business from the ground up. That’s good, right? Marquetta is totally awesome. She’s teaching me to cook. She said I’m a natural. That meant a lot cause Marquetta’s a totally awesome cook.

Daddy really likes her, and she likes him. They wanna be together, but they’re being super lame about this whole relationship thing. It sure makes my job as a kid harder. It’s totally unfair. I’m only ten and I’m having to do all the heavy lifting to get them together!

I got another problem, too, Journal. Miss O’Connor has been accused of murder. She’s the lady archaeologist who’s been staying here for the past week. The cops are saying she killed a treasure thief. Can you believe it? It’s totally not true.

What’s also messed up is that Daddy doesn’t want to help the cops cause the mayor told him not to interfere. He put on his mean-parent face and used the super deep voice on me—keep your nose out of this Alex. For real? That’s totally not gonna work. Are the adults all clueless? If I don’t help Miss O’Connor, she’s gonna go to jail!

I don’t know who killed the treasure hunter, but me and my dad can figure it out. Somehow, I gotta get the mayor to change her mind. That’s why I sent her an email and gave her a deadline of noon today. I’ll bet she’s already realized what a mistake she made. Once she calls Daddy, he’s gonna be super proud of me cause I took the initiative.

This is gonna be so awesome, Journal. Wait, I think I hear him coming.
