Owner of Eventful!, Heaven, Colorado’s premier event organizing business, and Founding Member of the Readaholics book club
As an event organizer, I describe myself to prospective clients as a cross between the general contractor they’d hire to make sure their house gets built right, and a cruise director, with a touch of therapist thrown in.
Event organizing is a funny job. You’d think anyone can put a party together, and for the most part that’s true, if all you want is two-liter bottles of soda and box wine served in plastic cups, a deli tray or cake from the grocery store, and a handful of friends standing around chatting. If you’re having an event, though, a party or meeting or wedding that runs on a schedule, where the activities of a variety of professionals (caterers, bakers, rental companies, musicians, speakers, etc.) have to sync up, where there are lots of moving parts and big bucks involved, well, then, you’re smart to have an event organizer like moi.
My brother Derek was smart (not something I say often) to hire me to plan the Grand Opening of his new brew pub, Elysium Brewing. He may be a genius when it comes to mixing hops and malt to produce something alcoholic and potable, but he’s got no clue when it comes to event planning. Just looking at my to do list makes him down a yard of his famous Exorcise Your Demons IPA. Here’s a brief sample:
– Get banner made saying “Welcome to the Grand Opening of Elysium Brewing and arrange to have it hung over pub entrance
– Vet invitation list and get invitations printed and mailed
– Hire cleaning crew and order extra toilet paper, et al
– Coordinate with Heaven PD for traffic control
– Write/send ad for Heaven Herald
– Pick menu with caterer for VIP pre-event party
– Buy souvenir t-shirts with Elysium Brewing logo as giveaways
There’s more, but you get the idea. I lost Derek before we even got the wording for the banner worked out. However, I’ve got money invested in his pub, so I’m going to make sure the event is fun and memorable.

I don’t belong to a reading group, either, Barbara, but writing this series has made me want to start one.
I enjoy cozy mysteries about event planners. When one is a bookaholic, the combination is irresistable.
That’s what I thought, Jeanie! I hope others feel as we do. 🙂

I am about to finish up Heather Webber’s Perfectly Matched (Lucy Valentine)

I guess you might call my “group” a book club. We share around with each other books we enjoy. After my books have made the rounds, I give them to a shut-in. This series sounds like fun. I’m very organized, but I’m not sure that I could take on event planning. I’m interested in the “Readaholics'” thoughts on The Maltese Falcon. Currently reading an ARC by writer Paul Zimmer.
Your book club sounds great, Lisa. I get all my best recommendations for what to read next when I visit book clubs.
Sounds like a great new series. I’ve read Laura DiSilverio’s other series and enjoyed them. Thanks for a chance to win a copy of the new book. cking78503@aol.com

I’m currently reading The Washington Stratagem by Adam LeBor~riveting book! I live in a very small town and there are no book clubs but I’m a member of on-line clubs. Thank you for the great post and contest~the book sounds terrific!
Book groups? I belong to a number of author and blogger groups on FaceBook so that should cover that part of the question. I’ve just finished reading “Exile” by C.T. Adams and “The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire” by Molly Harper.
Please toss my hat into the contest ring Dru.
I have read several of Laura’s books (Mall cop; Charlie & Gigi) but none in this series. Thanks for the introduction and the opportunity to win a copy Dru and Laura! I am anxious to read the series now!
So glad to hear you enjoy my books, Barbara. I hope you fall in love with Amy-Faye and her friends.
Just finished : Well Read, then Dead. Haven’t decided which will be next.
I don’t belong to a book club. I like to read “trash” and they always read these “high-toned” books. Square peg in a round hole.
thanks for a chance to win this book.
Sounds like a great read.
I believe this will be a must read for me!!
This sounds like a fun new series. Just finished reading No Way Out by Holly Porter. Thanks for the giveaway.

Oops, would help if I answered the question, right now I’m reading A Broth of Betrayal and no I don’t belong to a book group.
Sounds like a book I would like to read.
I just finished reading Dropping the Dime by Ellie Ashe and Secret of the Painted Lady by Christina Burke. Enjoyed them both. I love both your Charlotte Swift and Mall series. I know I will love this new series, too! Thanks for the chance to win a copy. I don’t belong to a book club–probably because I don’t want to be “forced” to read what the group wants me to read. LOL
Thanks for reading my books, Linda. I will admit that the idea of reading books I didn’t want to read kept me from belonging to book clubs for years, but now I try to get out of my comfort zone with books, so I think I’d like to join a club now and read a wider variety of things, even if I don’t like them.
I am reading Diners, Drive-ins, and Death by Christine Wenger. Love food descriptions! LOL I belong to 2 reading challenges. THANK YOU for the Giveaway!!!!
I’d love to win this; it sounds like it will be an interesting series!

I’m reading PC Doherty’s 3rd book, Horus. But our reading group convenes next Tuesday and for that I read Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. Full of Google mentions.
