Hi, I’m Andi Grace Scott, Low Country dog walker and amateur sleuth. I chose to become a dog walker. One morning, I went to walk a dog and stumbled over my first dead body. The dog was adopted by the man who is now my fiancé, and I solved the crime.

I live in Heyward Beach, South Carolina. We’re a small community where people look out for each other. While some of you may be dealing with snow and ice, there are only a few days of the year when I need to wear a heavy coat.

I live on the island, but most of the dogs I walk are on the mainland. Sunny, my German shepherd, usually accompanies me. Dogs need socialization skills, and Sunny is the best. She appeared in my life after my parents died, and she comforted my siblings and me through many trials. She’s also sensitive to distressed animals. Yep, she’s the best.

I’m always excited when the preacher’s wife needs me to walk her dogs. It’s ridiculous how bad she spoils Captain and Pumpkin, and I like to squeeze in a quick obedience lesson when she needs me.

I walk dogs when their people are at work or when they’re out of town on vacation. There’s a retirement community up the road, and I get calls from some of their residents when the weather is bad.

Daily Java is our local coffee shop, and I try to stop by every day to support the owner. Honestly, I enjoy the coffee too. Coffee and Cokes are two of my favorite indulgences.

After my morning appointments, I drive out to Stay and Play. It’s where I board dogs, give obedience lessons, and provide doggie day care. I’ve recently hired a groomer in order to expand my business. I provide on-site housing for two of my employees which gives me peace to know there’s always someone keeping watch.

One of my gifts is matching dogs with people. It’s my dream to build a loving shelter for dogs, and one day cats.

After working at Stay and Play, I either walk the dogs on my afternoon schedule or assign the appointments to a man who works for me.

On nice days, I’ll go for a walk on the beach then meet up with my fiancé and or family.

This is a normal day for me. Solving murders is when life gets dangerous. Like matching dogs with people, I seem to have a knack for catching killers.

Despite being warned off the case by the local sheriff, Andi Grace can’t help nosing around to find out who’s behind the foul deed.

It turns out the victim was a well-known radio personality who focused on cold-case investigations and was rumored to be breaking a huge story on his next show. As Andi Grace digs deeper to learn who may have wanted him dead, she’s faced with a suspect list that includes a cold-hearted widow who stands to inherit a bundle, a local country star with family demons to hide, and any number of unknown criminals who may have been the focus of the victim’s big reveal. Whether the motive was love gone bad, a career under duress, or a killer’s deadly secret, Andi Grace knows she’ll have to act fast before she becomes the next cold case herself . . .

About the author
Former Kentuckian Jackie Layton loves her new life in the Low Country. She enjoys time on the beach, despite one vacation that ended with cracked ribs from riding her boogie board with the kids and another trip that ended with a fish hook in her foot and a trip to the emergency room. There’s nothing like time at the beach, although she tends to be a bit more cautious these days. Jackie is the author of four Low Country Dog Walker Mysteries, including Bite the Dust, Dog-Gone Dead, Bag of Bones, and Caught and Collared.
