My name is Angela Hollingsworth. My friends call me Angie. I’ve always dreamed of being an investigative reporter and getting a coveted anchor spot on the news one day. I thought my first big break came when I agreed to work as a columnist for the Gazette, a small-town local newspaper. Little did I know this job could one day put my life and the life of my family in danger.

I lived a normal life in the suburbs of New Jersey. Upper Montclair to be specific. It was a small town with a population of about 12,000. An only child, my parents wanted me to have the best of everything, and moved into an elite neighborhood that was perfect to raise a family. I was pretty sheltered growing up, but I convinced my parents to let me go out of the state to college when I finished high school. My trust fund was available to me after college, and I rented a townhouse in Short Hills, a swanky suburb in New Jersey, only 40 minutes from my parents and twenty minutes from New York. I hadn’t ventured out of my neighborhood much though because my job kept me busy with traveling.

Let me tell you about my job. I applied for a position with the Gazette. It was a small operation, or so I thought. They hired me as a columnist to write about interior decorating. I know it seems lame now, but I thought it would eventually get me my by-line and then I would move on to more investigative assignments, and eventually that coveted anchor spot. I was willing to start at the bottom. My job required me to travel all over the world, collecting artifacts and samples to enhance the information I used in my article. While there, I always had a few days to sightsee or enjoy time on a beach. I encountered interesting and intriguing situations. It sounded like an ideal job, but as an investigative reporter, I should have taken off my columnist hat and put on my investigative hat and explored why they were willing to send a new reporter on lavish vacations to collect art. I should have asked what were in the packages and questioned the creepy characters I met for my boss. Instead, I enjoyed the vacations and decided to ask questions later, much later.

After I’d been working for the Gazette for two years, my current boyfriend thought it was odd that I had gifts of famous painters and artifacts displayed all around my townhouse. Was it odd? Should I investigate or was this the rantings of a jealous boyfriend who didn’t like me receiving gifts from my boss.

I did some investigating to satisfy myself and my boyfriend. I was surprised by what I found. I knew I had to do something, so I contacted an old friend from college who now worked for the FBI. I didn’t know how to deal with what I thought was a smuggling ring, but I hoped my old college friend would know what to do.

As the FBI investigation heated up, my loyalty to my boss was tested. His partners were skeptical. Could I fool them into believing I wasn’t trying to interfere in their operation, while secretly working with the FBI? Was I putting my life and the life of my family in danger?

Things got complicated between my jealous boyfriend and my college friend because of the time I spent with my old friend. Did I want to save my relationship, or was I developing feelings for my college friend? Could I help the FBI and clear my name? How would this end?
