Good morning! I’m Angie Turner, Head Chef and part owner of The County Seat here in River Vista, Idaho. You may have heard of me, the crazy lady who opened an upscale farm to fork restaurant in the little town south of Boise. Would we have been better off opening our new adventure downtown, near the Capital or the university? Probably, but we’re closer to the fields here. And I can live in the farm house my Nona left me when she passed. My partner in crime, Felicia, took the apartment above the restaurant and seems perfectly happy to be out of the San Francisco scene.

Of course, she wasn’t raised in what we call the Treasure Valley. Great place to raise a family, but sometimes, the big city night life, just isn’t there. Unless you call hanging out at the local country bar night life. And for some reason, Felicia’s loving it.

I never was one for the party life. I’d rather cuddle on the couch at night and watch cooking shows with Dom. No, he’s not my boyfriend. Ian’s usually too busy working on some new project to sit and cuddle. Dom is my new St. Bernard puppy. Well, young adult now. I was planning on getting a medium size dog. Like a Cocker, but one look into his big brown eyes and I was a goner.

Besides, I like to get up in the morning and after having my first cup of coffee, dig into new recipes for the restaurant. We add to and delete choices on the menu monthly and with autumn on the horizon, the changes are even bigger. But it’s fun to think of new ways to serve potatoes, right?

Well, I guess I start playing with recipes after I feed the zoo. Besides Dom who lives inside with me, I also have pets in the barn. I know, the old farmers at the feed store shake their heads when I call Mabel and Precious pets. Anyway, Precious is an all-black goat I found on our hiking trail and since her mama had been killed by coyotes, she stayed with me rather than going back to the goat herd. Mabel is the last black and white chicken from my Nona’s flock. She lets me live in the house as long as I keep her in chicken feed.

Speaking of the zoo, I better get out there and feed. Living on a farm has its advantages, like not having many neighbors, but life does start early here.
