Hi, I’m Bailey. Full name β€” Bailey Bird Martinez. I married my sweet husband, Tito, a short while ago at a local vineyard and, presto, a few months later, I became pregnant. Now we have an adorable little girl, Brianna. She looks like me with short spiky hair and big eyes and an affinity for colorβ€”the color is my doing, not hers. She isn’t crawling yet. My mother says she’s a late bloomer, but I’ll bet she’s like me. She’ll skip that phase and be cruising before I know it.

What’s a typical day for me? Well, I work at the Cookbook Nook, a culinary bookshop, owned by my friend Jenna Hart and her aunt Vera. I sell cookbooks and foodie items, and I help with the displays and shipments. My forte is marketing, so I keep the website up and running. It’s been a little difficult with Brianna. I’ve been working half days since having her. Jenna has allowed me to bring her to work, and seeing as Brianna isn’t crawling, it’s all good. She rarely cries and loves her owl-themed chair with flipper toys. But in the afternoons, she needs a nap, so off we go.

Okay, now lean in. I’m going to reveal a secret. . .

Ahem, if I’m truthful, I really need to spend more time with adults. I love my little girl, but my mind is becoming mush. So I’m looking for a nanny. Part-time. Just a few hours a day, three days a week. And I think I might have it pegged down. You know Tina? She used to work in the shop until she decided to go back to culinary school full time. Well, guess what? She has afternoons free. She loves Brianna and Brianna loves her. When Brianna naps, Tina can do homework. It’s a win-win, don’t you think?

If it all goes as planned, I’ll get back to working out at Your Wellness, a pilates studio. And hopefully, if I time it right, I can avoid seeing my husband’s nemesis, Kylie. A foodie reporter and fitness enthusiast, Kylie can be a bit of a diva. Especially now. Why? Because it’s Food Bowl week in Crystal Cove. Let’s face it, Kylie won’t be able to cover all the stories. Tito, a brilliant news reporter who adores food, wants to do a few interviews. His editor thinks that’s a fine idea. But will Kylie let him? I’m sure sparks will fly.

Wish me luck. I’ll be the one putting out the fires. Add that to my daily routine.

Shredding the Evidence is the ninth book in the “Cookbook Nook” cozy mystery series, released April 21, 2020.

The Agatha Award–winning author of Sifting Through Clues returns to the Cookbook Nook, where a combative food reporter gets her just deserts . . .

The denizens of Crystal Cove are salivating over the upcoming Food Bowl Week, when local chefs offer some of their best and most imaginative creations in bite-size portions all over town. Bookstore proprietor Jenna Hart is hungry to sample as many of the delicacies as she can, but when she stumbles onto the dead body of a local food reporter and learns that her best friend’s husband is the primary suspect, she’ll have to summon the appetite for a side dish of sleuthing to prove his innocence.

Jenna knows the ambitious and aggressive reporter, who was strangled at a fitness center with her shredded restaurant reviews scattered around her, left behind a long list of potential suspects. As she begins piecing together the scant clues, she uncovers illicit ties between the victim and a local newspaper owner, a spurned would-be lover, and a host of disgruntled restaurant owners not a bit torn up by the critical reporter’s demise. And with a solution so close she can almost taste it, Jenna turns up the heat on the culprit, realizing too late that she’s the next course on the murderer’s menu.

Includes tasty recipes!
