Becca Reynolds is the sleuth in the “River City” mysteries. One of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions. So, let’s get to know Becca.

What is your full name?
Rebecca Louise Reynolds, but everyone calls me Becca. Louise is for my dear Gram who is no longer with us.

How old are you?
Do I really have to answer that one? I mean, I’m certainly not old, but isn’t it a woman’s prerogative to either not tell her age or to lie about it? My mother does that all of the time. And don’t even ask my author to reveal hers. She won’t. But I will go so far as to tell you I’m a twenty-something.

What is your occupation?
My bosses say my job title is Receptionist for the psychiatric group where I work, Daley & Palmer. But that is SO not correct. I do everything for them. And they would be lost without me. My title should be Officer Manager, even though they pay me a receptionist’s wages. I joined the workforce after a particularly nasty divorce. With my art history degree (which I basically cruised through in college while I was dating that scum-sucker I ended up marrying), I was ill-prepared for a real job. But I’m taking classes at night to be a social worker and specialize in grief work. My hope is to one day join the firm and help people with grief and loss.

Do you have a significant other?
How much time do you have? My love life is either feast or famine. I’ve been involved with two men during the series. That is resolved somewhat in the third book, Your Lights are Out. But I’ve been talking with Kat, and she seems to have some ideas for book 4 and beyond. She told me not to worry about it because I will like the direction she is going to take my love life. I do have a bit of a phobia about getting in a long term relationship after that disastrous marriage I endured. But Kat assures me that a happy ending is in store for me.

Who is your best friend?
I have the most amazing best friend, Daisy Belova. She has secrets. Some of which I still don’t know. But I’m working on getting her to share them with me. Daisy was a world-class figure skater who suffered brain injuries several years ago. She acts impulsively and without regard to her own safety sometimes. But she’s a wonderful BFF and I try to protect her.

Do you have any pets?
Since I live with Granddad, I guess you could say his cat is also my cat. Kind of su gato es mi gato. Higgins is an overweight tuxedo cat. Granddad loves him dearly and calls him his baby. Daisy calls him Kittyboy. I call him the Fur Ball from Hell. We’re working on our relationship.

What town do you live in? Would you say you live in a small town or a big city?
I live in the Far West End of Richmond, Virginia. In the burbs. Although Richmond has more than a million people, where I live is more like a little town out in the burbs. There’s a cozy-ness about the neighborhoods.

Do you own or rent?
The divorce left me pretty destitute, so I rent from Granddad on a family and friends plan. My dream is to get a little place of my own.

What is your favorite spot in your home?
My bedroom. It’s my sanctuary. Higgins and I seem to fight over that prime real estate a lot. After staring down a few murderers and living to tell about it, I’ve started to bet on me instead of the cat for winning this little war we are waging.

Do you have any hobbies?
I don’t seem to have a lot of time for hobbies. Granddad says murder is my hobby. It’s not my fault people around me do end up dead! The police call me a murder magnet. I don’t think that’s flattering at all. I mean, you’d think they’d be happy I solve their cases for them.

Do you have a favorite music genre?
Almost any kind of music except that screeching opera stuff Dr. Daley likes to listen to in the mornings before he starts seeing our clients. He says it relaxes him. It sets my teeth on edge.

What is your idea of a really fun time?
A quiet stroll along the beach with someone I love. With no guns pointing at me and no murderers or dead bodies anywhere around. Heaven.

Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
I’m an amateur. Why would anyone want to do this for a living? No, I stumble across cases, see an innocent accused, and decide to figure it out. Sometimes I bounce ideas off of Granddad but mostly I work alone.

Anything else you’d like us to know?
I asked Kat how many more adventures I was going to have and she said several more. We hope your readers will give the books a try. If they join Kat’s newsletter at katjorgensenauthor.com, the prequel is free. Because that’s how we roll.

Your Lights are Out is the third book in the “River City” cozy mystery series, released July 29, 2020.

Hohoho! It’s Becca Reynolds’ first Christmas at the psychiatric firm of Daley & Palmer. To cheer up the clients, as well as herself, she has decorated the office for the season complete with a fully festive tree.

But when she discovers one of the doctors dead under the tree with a string of holiday mini-lights tightly encircling the unlucky therapist’s neck and the other end peacefully resting between her Granddad’s cranky cat’s paws, she knows it’s up to her to investigate yet another murder tied to the hapless firm.

Surely Higgins isn’t responsible for the death? But who is?

Can Becca solve the case and bring the killer to justice?

Or will it be a blue, blue Christmas in River City?
