Being a relationship advice columnist is a lot of fun. I get to write about romance for a living and who doesn’t love love? Working from home is another perk of the job. My boss, Elliot, has no idea how many times I walk to the coffee shop from my apartment in Chicago or nap in the middle of the day. As long as I deliver my column on time, or mostly on time, we’re both happy.

At least that used to be my life. Now I’ve got a bodyguard following me around, some nut job sending me daily threats, and far fewer impromptu trips to the coffee shop. My friend Bethany says I should stop complaining because my bodyguard happens to look a lot like the hero of the TV show Outlander. I agree that Caleb is pleasant to look and but he has so many rules. I’m not a big fan of the rules, even if he says they’re designed to keep me safe.

Still, I can’t stop wondering if Caleb finds my free spirit charming or simply annoying. His quiet but steady ways seem to be growing on me despite the lurking danger that brought him into my life. I’m so close to convincing him to let me go to my neighborhood bar’s annual Halloween party. All I have to do is follow his rules for a few more days. Ha! He thought I wouldn’t be able to do it, but he doesn’t know how much having fun motivates me. I mean, what are the chances that the man threatening me would show up at the party. Minimal, right?

I guess we’ll see. In the meantime, I’ll be shadowed by a handsome man carrying a gun every step I take outside of my apartment. Now that I think about it. Maybe Bethany’s right. Maybe I shouldn’t be so upset. Caleb will be here any minute. He let it slip that he used to be a Navy SEAL so I’m using the time I should be writing my column to watch the reality show Making the Cut about Navy SEAL training. I have to admit, if this show is accurate, then Caleb’s skills are even more impressive than his good looks.

From Erica Wynters comes a closed-door romantic suspense brimming with heart, humor, and edge-of-your-seat tension.

Becca Whitney, the voice behind the wildly popular love advice column Chasing Cupid, lives and breathes romance. But her idealistic world takes a dangerous turn when a piece of advice—encouraging a reader to leave an abusive relationship—puts her in the crosshairs of a vengeful, unhinged ex-boyfriend.

Enter Caleb Sheppard: ex-military, all-business, and as inflexible as his tailored suits. As Becca’s newly assigned bodyguard, he’s determined to keep her safe—even if it means curbing her free-spirited ways. To Becca, Caleb is equal parts frustrating and fascinating, his quiet strength and smirking restraint a maddening contradiction to her spontaneous, romantic heart.

As the danger escalates, so does their undeniable chemistry. Becca can’t help but push Caleb’s boundaries, while Caleb discovers that Becca’s chaos might just be the spark he didn’t know he needed. Together, they walk a fine line between resistance and surrender, all while trying to outwit a threat that grows closer by the day.

Will Becca let her guard down and risk her heart? And can Caleb protect her without losing his own in the process?
