Hi there! Nice to meet you. My name is Brenna Flynn. You’d like to know what a typical day in my life is like, okay. . .
A few months ago, it would have been a simple answer. I was living in Illinois and working as a high school guidance counselor, helping students navigate their way to the next step in their lives.
But, life changed recently. My husband died in a car accident. I learned about secrets he’d kept from me, and at the end of the school year, I lost my job to budget cuts. So, I put our house on the market and returned home to Bayview City. It’s a nice sized town on the shores of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
My parents are happy I’m home. I’m staying in the top-floor apartment in a refurbished Victorian home. My dad and uncle are partners in the family’s construction and renovation business. They divided the home I live in into five apartments and I’m the person the other tenants contact if they have a problem. I tell Dad about the problem, and someone from the construction company comes in to fix the issue.
I’ve been looking for work in my field, but budget cuts are hitting most of the school boards. Dad’s offered me work with the business, two of my three brothers work there and he’d love it if I did too. However, I’m determined to find work on my own.
Jackie Randall, a family friend who owns Randall Temp Agency, called this morning about an interview. It’s for a production assistant job on a cooking reality show being taped here in Bayview City. I don’t know anything about reality shows, except the ones I watch and I’m not a great cook. But, hey, I’m willing to try.
When I showed up for my interview, the producer was having issues with an electrical company. Knowing my dad’s company could fix the situation I stepped in and made a call. Problem solved. I impressed the producer and executive producer so much they offered me the job right away. What a relief!
I spent today learning about my new position and meeting everyone who works on the show, including the three chefs who are the stars. They’re nice, down-to-earth people. The job sounds interesting, working with everyone connected to the show.
What could go wrong? It’s going to be a fun and busy six weeks.
