Brianna first appeared in I Try Not To Drive Past Cemeteries and one of the best ways to know a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Brianna.

What is your name?
Brianna Sullivan or maybe Brianna Sullivan Jackson. I’m still deciding if I want to keep my name or take my new husband’s last name. Check back with me on that.

How old are you?
I’m 36 years old and don’t look a day over 35.

What is your profession?
My day job is working as an office manager for Doc Myers who owns a funeral home in Lottawatah, Oklahoma. I’m also a psychic, much to my mother-in-law’s horror. I’ve worked as a water well dowser, finding water for farmers when there doesn’t seem to be a drop of the stuff nearby. I’ve exorcised ghosts from houses because most buyers aren’t interested in having wandering spirits in their homes. I’ve tracked down missing kids. And since arriving in Lottawatah, I’ve solved multiple murders, although my contributions to finding killers is often underappreciated by my new husband, who happens to be Chief of Police.

Do you have a significant other?
Indeed, I do.

What is his name and profession?
Cooper Jackson is my brand-new husband and Chief of Police of Lottawatah, Oklahoma.

Any children?
One on the way!

Do you have any sibling(s)?
No.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
I inherited Leon, an older bulldog with a wonky digestive tract. I had a kitten for a few months, but Cooper was very allergic so now she lives with his Great Aunt Ida.

What town do you live in?
Lottawatah, Oklahoma, population, 1452, number of ghosts in transit varies. The town’s claim to fame is its location between Interstate Highway I-40 and Lake Eufaula in Southeastern Oklahoma.

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
I used to live in a motorhome until I got stuck. . .uh settled down. . .in Lottawatah. My perfect guy and I bought the perfect house, which unfortunately was the site of an imperfect murder.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
Probably the living room with its built-in bookshelves and stone fireplace. I have a gourmet kitchen that looks great and that I use to microwave popcorn and rewarm leftover pizza.

Who is your best friend?
Beverly Heyman, who works for the Lottawatah Police Department, has six kids, and sings like an angel. She’s also game for almost anything and unlike many in town, absolutely believes in my psychic abilities.

Amateur sleuth or professional?
I don’t think of myself as an amateur sleuth. I just don’t get paid for most of my sleuthing. The former police chief had me on contract, but when Cooper got the job, I lost that source of income. I do odd psychic jobs for cash but it’s not a living, pun intended. My job at the funeral home takes up most of my time anyway. I deal with living and deceased clients. Both are very demanding.

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
My bulldog Leon is my faithful companion (as long as I carry beef jerky). But he’s not crazy about ghost hunting and tends to cut and run at the first whiff of sulfur. Cooper, my husband, has reluctantly used my “talents” while maintaining his public position of “tolerant skepticism.” My BFF Beverly is happy to help and not shy about her belief in my special talents. Everyone needs someone like Beverly in their lives.

Favorite meal?
Takeout from Tiny’s Barbeque in Lottawatah and don’t tell her, but my mother-in-law’s fried chicken.

Favorite dessert?
Rocky Road ice cream (check behind the frozen vegetables in my freezer for my private stash). Also, I’m very fond of Strawberry Twizzlers. Although in my world they’re really not just for dessert. Kind of like Poptarts aren’t just for breakfast.

Favorite hobby?
I like reading when I have time. Beverly has turned me on to country music. I love to hear her sing at The Pig Palace in Lottawatah. Leon and I have been thinking about training for search and rescue but we both have physical challenges (neither of us like hiking) that make that more of an aspiration than a real possibility. Hey, everyone needs to have a dream.

Favorite vacation spot?
When I left my job with the airlines in Chicago, I spent several months travelling in Matilda, my motorhome. My favorite places were near lakes (very calming) and many miles from cemeteries (way too noisy). Since I moved to Lottawatah, I spent a long weekend at Eureka Springs and the Crescent Hotel. That was fun even if it turned into more of a working holiday – the hotel is a ghost hot spot.

Cooper and I just got back from our honeymoon cruise of the Caribbean. I think I would have liked it more if I hadn’t been suffering from all-day morning sickness. Next year Cooper wants to go somewhere with snow, maybe Colorado. That’s fine with me as long as we stay away from Estes Park.

Favorite color?
All shades of blue.

Favorite author?
Evelyn David, that author just gets me.

Favorite sports team?
For the sake of marital harmony, I will say the Sooners, the football team of The University of Oklahoma. Football is sort of a religious experience in Oklahoma.

Movies or Broadway?
Neither. We don’t even have a movie theater in Lottawatah, but my husband did buy a 60-inch television (the better to watch football) and we have Netflix and Amazon Prime. I’m thinking of adding on Acorn TV for the British mystery series. Love watching Vera.

Are you a morning or a night person?
I’m a night person, or at least I was before I got pregnant. Now I don’t know what I am. Maybe a middle of the day person?

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
On workdays I get up at 6:30 when my alarm clock goes off and my morning sickness ignites. Cooper is usually already up and in the shower by then, but he knows to leave the door open for me to make a mad dash to pay homage to the porcelain god. After breakfast of coffee (decaf now that I’m pregnant), Poptarts, and prenatal vitamins, I drive to the funeral home. I try to be at my desk by eight o’clock. Sometimes it’s more like nine o’clock if I know Doc is there to open-up the business. I do a little bit of everything: pay bills, send out invoices for funerals, answer phones, file, and sometimes I do makeup for clients when Doc is busy. Someone from the local hair salon comes over to do hair. I also help Doc check in clients and set up for procedures. In the afternoons, I assist with viewings and act as a go-between between families and their deceased loved ones. Leon comes to work with me most days. He has a dog bed in the corner of my office and there is a tranquility garden in the back of the building where he can do his business. I usually get “carry-out” from Tiny’s for lunch for Doc and me. When business is slow and, on the weekends, I spend time at the lake or doing psychic odd-jobs. For a town the size of Lottawatah there seem to be an unusually large number of people who need to move into the light. I try to help get them on the outgoing bus. . .and in the case of murder, discover who punched their ticket.

You can read about Brianna in Gone Fishing in Lottawatah, the 14th book in the “Brianna Sullivan” mystery series.

Has pregnancy affected Brianna’s psychic abilities? When Doc Myers, her mother’s boyfriend, who also happens to be Brianna’s boss, is kidnapped, and a respected member of the community turns up dead, this medium doesn’t have a clue. It’s hard to fight crime when you’re fighting 24/7 morning sickness. With ghosts only talking in riddles, Brianna must rely on old-fashioned sleuthing and her intuition to find Doc and stop the murders.

Gone Fishing in Lottawatah is the fourteenth book in the Brianna Sullivan mystery series. Join Brianna, Cooper, Beverly, Julia, and of course, Leon, her adorable bulldog with the wonky digestive tract, on a roller coaster of a mystery ride, full of thrills, chills, and yes even romance.
