Hello – It’s me again. Caro Lamont. You may remember me from previous adventures we’re shared in Desperate Housedogs and Kitty Kitty Bang Bang. Seems I’m always trying to stay out of trouble but somehow trouble keeps finding me.
In this book, Fifty Shades of Greyhound, trouble finds me at a Greyhound rescue event. You see, I love animals and I don’t say that just because I make my living as a pet therapist. I am an absolute full-out sucker for a furry face; and I always have been. When I was little I spent a lot of time at my Grandma Tillie’s home. She had a menagerie of dogs and cats and other animals. Besides that, I was Grandma Tille’s favorite granddaughter. But don’t get me started on that mess. You see that’s how the trouble started between my cousin Melinda and me. The dispute was, for the most part anyway, about Grandma Tillie’s jeweled brooch. The family brooch plays a big part in this most recent adventure and just wait until you hear what happens this time. Nobody saw this one coming!
Anyway, because I can’t resist an event that involves an animal rescue effort and also because there was the added benefit that I had to buy a new fancy frock, I found myself at the Fifty Shades of Greyhound Gala. Blanche LeRue, the organizer, was a force to be reckoned with and she had planned this shindig down to the tiniest detail. The elegant venue, the sumptuous food, and even a beautifully crafted Greyhound ice sculpture were all a part of her plan to raise big bucks for Greyhound rescue. What Blanche didn’t know was that, despite her careful planning, things would very soon go awry. Her gala would turn into a very memorable evening (and not in a good way) and the events that transpire set off another chain of events. By the time things are sorted out, two people are dead, my friend, Diana Knight and I are involved in a sting operation, and what’s true or not is awash in shades of gray.
There’s also some fun with pajama-wearing Betty, who you met in Yip/Tuck, and Ollie, our favorite pet-friendly rocker, as well as a few choice tidbits about the sweet Greyhound dogs, who I’ve recently learned are often referred to as forty mile-per-hour couch potatoes.
I think you’ll enjoy this latest installment and from now on I am fixin’ to stay out of trouble…unless it finds me.
You can read more about Caro in Fifty Shades of Greyhound, the fifth book in the “Pampered Pets” mystery series, published by Bell Bridge Books. The first book in the series is Desperate Housedogs. Books are available at retail and online booksellers.

Sparkle Abbey is the pseudonym of mystery authors Mary Lee Woods and Anita Carter. They write the popular pet mystery series which features whodunits set in the wacky world of pampered pets, precious pedigrees, and secrets. They chose to use Sparkle Abbey as the pen name on this series because they liked the idea of combining the names of their two rescue pets – Sparkle (ML’s cat) and Abbey (Anita’s dog). I think that I would love to read this book after having lived previously near a Greyhound Dog Track and having very mixed emotions about racing dogs. But I know people who raised them and they took wonderful care of them and they were really great dogs and so good as pets after their racing days. So this book appeals to me greatly.
Thank you, Dru.
Having an excellent Mother’s Day despite only a little sleep and a lot of pain last night. But us Moms can and do cope with it all. 🙂
Cynthia, we understand about the mixed emotions. The are some great dog owners who take care of their Greyhounds. The work the many rescue groups with retired dogs is wonderful!
I would love to win a Kindle copy of Fifty Shades of Greyhound. I’ve always liked greyhounds.
Linda, they are such sweet dogs. We really didn’t know much about them until a lady brought her Greyhound to one of our book events.
