Cat Latimer first appeared in A Story To Kill and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Cat.

What is your name?
Cat Latimer.

How old are you?
35.

What is your profession?
Author/writer retreat runner.

Do you have a significant other?
No, but I’m seriously dating someone.

What is his name and profession?
Seth Howard is the local handyman. I should tell you that he was also my high school sweetheart. Before the first husband. We broke up over a stupid fight but we’ve tried to put that aside.

Any children?
No. Shudders.

Do you have any sibling(s)?
Not that I know of. . . But I have a friend who’s as close as a sister.

Who is your best friend?
Shauna. She’s the one I consider my sister.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
1 Horse (Shauna’s) and 6 cats.

What town do you live in?
Aspen Hills, CO.

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
House. I own it with a bank loan for the remodeling loan when I opened the retreat.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
My turret office.

Favorite meal?
Anything Shauna cooks. I swear, the girl is an amazing cook especially since her last job was being a bartender. I’m partial to her lasagna.

Favorite dessert?
Chocolate chip cookies. Especially warm, just out of the oven. Yum. Shauna makes them during the retreat so I’m always poking my head into the dining room right at three just in case the cookies are there.

Favorite hobby?
I love to hike. Is that a hobby? Seth’s taking one of the writer retreat groups on a hike next year. I’m so looking forward to seeing him show off his mad backwoodsman skills.

Favorite vacation spot?
San Diego. Of course, I haven’t been there in a while, not since I opened the retreat. I love hanging out at Coronado Beach. And walking through the Gas Light district, so much fun.

Favorite color?
It’s called autumn brown. Kind of a rust that they use in southwestern design.

Favorite author?
Hmm, mostly any author who writes magical realism. I adore finding witches dealing with real life issues.

Favorite sports team?
I am forced as a resident of Colorado to say the Denver Broncos. But actually, I’m not a big sports fan.

Movies or Broadway?
Definitely live theatre. I love the excitement that comes over the crowd when the lights dim and the story begins. We go into Denver for both Broadway shows and local theater. But if we’re staying in town, it’s either the college drama productions or the small movie theatre downtown.

Are you a morning or a night person?
Morning. Give me a cup of coffee and I’ll be ready for a few hours of writing my stories. Seth teases me I’m not much of a night owl, so I try to keep up if he’s around.

Amateur sleuth or professional?
Amateur – my Uncle Pete is the professional. He’s the police chief for Aspen Hills.

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
Whoever will play with me at the time? Shauna tends to rat me off to Uncle Pete, and now, I’m finding Seth doing the same thing.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
It depends. If the retreat isn’t in session, my day is dictated by my writing schedule. If I’m at the first or middle of a book, I write for a few hours, have breakfast, and then see what Shauna’s doing. Sometimes we take off for a spa day in Denver. Sometimes we just hang around the house. If Seth isn’t working, I’ll go hiking with him or maybe go out to the local dive bar for a few beers. Living in a college town, there are a lot of free lectures that I attend, especially when they bring in an author.

If the retreat is in session, I try to sneak in an hour of writing first thing. Then it depends on the schedule. I like to be available for guests if they have questions or want to chat about writing. I love talking to other writers about their path. The discussion always brings out new ideas for me to try or books to read. On those weeks, I’m always in bed early so I can be ready for whatever happens. And for a small writing retreat, chaos seems to check in as soon as the guests do.
