Hello. My name is Chaos. I’m a very important tortoise-shell cat. I almost look black, but not quite. I live with a woman who sees spirits. Some people call them ghosts, but Madam Celeste and I prefer the term Spirit. Celeste Beaupre and I live together in Texas. We have a lot of visitors at our house. Madam Celeste reads their cards or their runes or uses a crystal ball that she’s particularly fond of. She has a lot of steady clients and the occasional oncer, someone who visits every once in a while. Naturally her clients all have to fawn over me before they see her. They must know I’m part of her psychic connection.
Sometimes I do have to help her. You know, give her a nudge about what she needs to be using today. Or let her know that there’s a spirit in the living room. There’s this one spirit that spends a lot of time with us ever since Madam Celeste helped him get free from a horrible place he was stuck in. As for me, the world consists of two places: Our place and Not Our Place. So I can’t tell you where he was. I’ve heard them talk about a large building with lots of boxes and shipping trucks. I love boxes, but this place sounds a bit evil. It has a lot of spirits there and they are not all nice like Paul. Some of them would have you believe they can send you to hell!
You can see why I prefer our place. We have a little garden out back with a waterfall that I enjoy watching. It’s usually all very peaceful. Occasionally Madam Celeste will get involved with someone who needs more than just a reading. They need her help solving a mystery. Just last week she met a man who needed her help finding an anchor. It was apparently the key to some pressing issue at that building out in Not Our Place. He was persistent and Madam Celeste is so nice she couldn’t refuse. She even went to his work for a few Fridays. It turns out she has a Master’s degree in Social Work, so she had to pretend to be a social worker. Isn’t that funny, a woman with Madam Celeste’s psychic abilities pretending to be a social worker. I don’t really know what a social worker is, but it seems they have to socialize a lot because she’s had a lot of new people around lately that aren’t clients.
There’s one in particular that I really like. His name is Joe and he lets me sleep on his shoulder when he comes over in the evenings. Sometimes he stops by and then takes Madam Celeste to Not Our Place. I think she goes there too much lately, but she takes good care of me so I’m not complaining. . . much. . . I am a cat. I have ways to let her know how I feel and she always understands. I guess it’s because she’s psychic.
Linda Anthony Hill wrote a book about us. It’s called The Anchor is the Key from Black Rose Writing. You can find it on Amazon or on Linda’s website at lahauthor.com. She’s also on Twitter and Facebook. I don’t read, but I’ve heard it’s a very good book and a Cozy Mystery, too. I hope you come visit us. Madam Celeste always leaves her one o’clock appointment open for emergencies.
Celeste leads a quiet life as a psychic in a small town. That is. . . until she is drawn in to a haunting murder investigation. A sweet little old lady client has started spreading the word that Celeste is not only psychic but she is also a healer. She has no desire to be a healer, but now her phone is ringing non-stop. And to top it all off, she seems to have adopted a ghost who has no idea how long he has really been dead.
