Charlene Morris sits down for a Q&A with dru’s book musings responding to twenty or more questions so that we can learn more about her. Are you ready? Let’s get to know Charlene.
What is your full name?
Charlene Morris.
How old are you?
43
What is your profession?
I used to work in Marketing in Chicago, now I own a B&B in Salem, Mass. Talk about a change — from Big Time City and a world of finance and power to Ghosts, Modern Witches, Vampires and all this hocus pocus. It was like stepping into a time warp.
Do you have a significant other?
Not now, I’m sorry to say. I was happily married for ten years, but an inebriated driver ended that.
Do you have any children?
Unfortunately no.
Do you have any siblings?
No, I was an only child.
Are your parents nearby?
No, they live in Chicago.
Who is your best friend?
I would have to say Jack, my resident ghost. He was the previous owner and could not move on.
Do you have any pets?
Yes! I have a silver Persian named Silva.
What town do you live in?
I have lived in Salem, Mass for the past 3 years and it has changed my perspective and opened my mind to unlimited possibilities.
Type of dwelling and do you own or rent?
I own an old mansion that is now a B&B.
What is your favorite spot in your home?
It’s a toss between my suite and the living room where I do most of the entertaining and welcome cocktail parties for my guests.
Favorite meal and dessert?
That is difficult to answer. My housekeeper is an excellent cook and I love everything she makes. Especially her beef stroganoff and baklava.
What music do you listen to?
I love some of the old time favorites such as the Eagles, Elton John and many others. As well as Adele and Tyler Swift, but in my quiet moments I prefer Andre Bocelli and Josh Groban.
Do you have any hobbies?
I don’t have much time for them but yes, I love to explore new places, and buying vintage accessories for my home.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
We honeymooned in Maui so it would be that.
What is your idea of a really fun time?
Happy hour with my guests and celebrating after solving a crime.
If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
A Life Well Lived.
Amateur or professional sleuth?
Amateur for sure! I often work with my resident ghost.
In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
I take care of the guests with help from my housekeeper/cook Minnie, and young Avery. Other times I’m busy trying to help the police solve a murder–for some strange reason, I’m usually the first person at the crime scene. I do get myself into trouble a lot. Especially with the handsome detective, Sam Holden.

It’s Fourth of July in Salem, Massachusetts—and B&B owner Charlene Morris is about to witness the shot heard ’round the town . . .
Madison Boswell, a beauty recently transplanted from Boston, is starring in the Independence Day play in this New England town full of colonial history—and, of course, witchcraft. Madison may not be a Wiccan, but she does seem to have certain hypnotic powers. And she’s left some angry people in her wake, from a fellow actress beaten out for a role to a jealous betrayed wife. Now, as Charlene films the performance for her housemate, Jack—a handsome ghost who shares the Victorian bed-and-breakfast with her and her Persian cat—the drama queen takes a deadly bullet from what was supposed to be a prop gun.
With a long list of suspects and lots of backstage whispers, it looks like the investigation by Charlene and Detective Sam Holden could set off some fireworks . . .
