Camryn Brooks sits down for a Q&A with dru’s book musings responding to ten or more questions so we can learn more about her. Are you ready? Let’s get to know Camryn.
What is your full name?
Camryn Jo Brooks. I was born Cami Jo, and legally changed my name to Camryn when I went to work for a senator in Washington D.C.
How old are you?
37
What is your profession?
I was the director of Legislative affairs in Washington, and now manage Curio Finds, a shop that specializes in Snow Globes from around the world. I was also elected mayor of Brooks Landing two months back.
If you have a significant other, what is their name and profession?
I recently started dating Clinton Lonsbury. He was the assistant police chief, and was appointed the Brooks Landing police chief following the death of Police Chief Newel a month ago.
Do you have any children?
Not yet, and have never been married.
Who is your best friend?
I need to name two: Alice “Pinky” Nelson who owns Brew Ha-Ha, a coffee shop adjoining Curio Finds, and Erin Vickeman, a school teacher in Brooks Landing. We’ve been friends since childhood.
Do you have cats, dogs, or other pets?
I’d like to, but I’m gone too much to be a good mama.
What town do you live in?
Brooks Landing, Minnesota.
What type of dwelling do you own or rent?
I rent a 1960s one-story, two-bedroom rambler in a quiet neighborhood
Do you have any hobbies?
I love to read and research but given my two jobs, and detective work on the side, I don’t have much free time for other pursuits.
If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
Life Is Filled With Surprises.
Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
I fell into the role of amateur sleuth after I discovered a man’s body on my walk through the local park late one October evening, and I felt duty-bound to learn the killer’s identity. That started a series of unfortunate discoveries, and more crimes to solve. I try to stay out of the way of local law enforcement’s investigation, but our paths continue to cross. The good news is: Brooks Landing Police Chief Lonsbury and Buffalo County Detective Garrison have become more tolerant of my “interference.”
