Hi, my name is Claire Anderson and nothing in my average life led me to believe I’d start the school year by solving a murder. My sister always said I’m like a dog with a bone, once I find a puzzle. And I hate to admit that while following my student’s clues, I felt alive for the first time in five years. I might have meddled, a little, but the student is alive and the killer was caught.

Up until this summer, my days have been pretty predictable. I work hard as a seventh-grade science teacher in Fairview, Colorado. I love to see my student’s eyes light up when they do an experiment or come to understand Newton’s law of relativity.

If I’m not working I like to hang out with my best friend, Savanna, and watch Korean dramas. They have the best romantic comedies and I could use some romance. I haven’t dated much since I proposed to my boyfriend at a town Christmas party and he ran off the stage. My small hometown is still talking about it five years later, so I have a rule: never date anyone from Fairview again.

I do have one handsome male in my life, Tod, the stray Balinese kitten I adopted. But it’s been a while since I’ve had a murder to solve. So when a body was discovered in the Fairview Diner’s dumpster I had to find out what happened. Not only is my friend’s husband a suspect, but another one of my students is involved. I finally have another puzzle to solve and I won’t rest until everything falls into place.

A Teacher in the Dumps by Monique Bird is the second book in the “Ms. Anderson” cozy mystery series, released July 21, 2020.

Claire Anderson’s life is in the dumps—her romance with a handsome, fellow teacher is stalled, and her fluffy kitten keeps biting her. She loves teaching 7th grade science, but she can’t shake the feeling that something is missing. So when a body is found in the dumpster of the Fairview Diner, Claire is secretly excited.

Claire is even more thrilled when her friend asks her to investigate. The victim had plenty of enemies, which means plenty of adventure for Claire. Too bad one of the suspects is her friend’s husband and another is a student’s older sister. That’s the problem with murder in a small town; all of the suspects are people you know.
