Danielle Sloan first appeared in Tart of Darkness and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Dani.

What is your name?
Danielle Sloan.

How old are you?
Almost 30.

What is your profession?
I was in Human Resources for a big insurance company, but now I’m the owner and chief bottle washer of Chef-to-Go. We do catering, lunch-to-go, and personal chef gigs.

Do you have a significant other? What is his name and profession?
It turned out that my last boyfriend already had a fiancé, so I’m taking my time before jumping into a new relationship. But, I do find Spencer Drake, the head of campus security, pretty darn hot!

Any children?
Nope! But I am a de facto house mother to the three college girls who live with me and work for Chef-to-Go.

Do you have any sibling(s)?
Sadly, no.

Do your parents live near you?
My father lives in the next town over, but we aren’t very close. He pretty much shut down when my mother died.

Who is your best friend?
Kelsey Zahler, former attorney now romance writer.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
Not yet.

What town do you live in?
Normalton, IL.

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
I inherited an old mansion and run my business from the main floor. My three borders live on the second floor and I have the owner’s suite on the third floor.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
Definitely my amazing kitchen.

Favorite meal? Favorite dessert?
That’s a hard one for a chef. I guess it’s always the newest recipe in my repertoire.

Favorite hobby?
I just started collecting vintage salt and pepper shakers. I found a bunch in the attic of the house I inherited and fell in love with them.

Favorite author?
I have to say my BFF Kelsey or she’ll get mad at me.

Favorite vacation spot?
I haven’t been anywhere, but if I ever get the chance, I’d love to go to Kauai.

Favorite sports team?
Considering where I live, I’d better say the Cardinals.

Movies or Broadway?
Movies.

Are you a morning or a night person?
Morning. I have to be up early to get the food prepared for the lunch-to-go portion of my business.

Amateur sleuth or professional?
Very much an amateur.

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
I’m an equal opportunity sleuth, but mostly Spencer as he has all the inside scoop on the crime.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
I get up around five a.m. and prepare breakfast for my borders. Then whichever girl’s turn it is helps me with the lunch-to-go prep and sales. Afterwards, I organize the next job, either a catering or personal chef gig. If I have any free time, I look for and try new recipes.

You can read about Dani in Leave No Scone Unturned, the second book in the “Chef-to-Go” cozy mystery series, coming March 26, 2019.

The back-to-school season can be murder

It’s the beginning of the university’s fall semester and Dani can’t wait for the college students to return to Normalton, Illinois―after all, without them, there is no one to support her Lunch-to-Go service, which is a vital part of her Chef-to-Go business. But Normalton University’s orientation week is marred by a mysterious murder, along with a series of car-jackings and sightings of a mysterious creature in a pond on campus. And with the whole town feeling unsettled, Dani finds herself dealing once again with the infuriatingly handsome Spencer Drake, the head of security at the university.

Although Dani vowed that her life would never again be boring and routine after she quit her stifling corporate job, she had no idea that she’d end up dealing with such strange happenings―not to mention murder. But as the trouble in Normalton draw worryingly close to home, Dani realizes that if the killer isn’t caught soon, she may be the next one who is found scone cold dead.
