Daphne Templeton first appeared in Death by Chocolate Lab and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Daphne.

What is your name?
Daphne Templeton

How old are you?
31

What is your profession?
I run a pet sitting business called Lucky Paws and a bakery for pets called Flour Power. (It’s got a kind of groovy vibe.)

Do you have a significant other?
Yes

What is his name and profession?
His name is Jonathan Black, and he used to be a detective. Unfortunately, I was usually involved in the murder cases he investigated, so that became problematic as we fell in love. He’s now a consultant with the military, investigating crimes on naval bases.

Any children?
Not yet. Maybe someday!

Do you have any sibling(s)?
One sister, named Piper, who is the complete opposite from me. She’s rational, scientific and sensible – and also one of my best friends.

Do your parents live near you?
My mother lives in the same town. My dad left years ago, when I was a kid.

Who is your best friend?
Aside from my sister, my best friends are Socrates (a basset hound), Tinkleston (a surly Persian cat) and Moxie Bloom, who owns a salon for people and pets called Spa and Paw.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
I really never refer to Socrates and Tinks as pets. They’re furry family members and friends!

What town do you live in?
Sylvan Creek, Pennsylvania

House or building complex? Own or Rent?
I rent a tiny house called Plum Cottage, in the forest on my sister’s property, Winding Hill Farm.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
The kitchen, which has a vintage ice box and a little herb garden where Tinkleston pretends to be a jungle cat.

Favorite meal? Favorite dessert?
I am a little bit obsessed with cheese, so anything that’s full of that is okay with me. My favorite dessert is peach cream pie, from my grandmother’s recipe.

Favorite hobby?
Aside from catching killers, I like to bake.

Favorite author?
Plato (I have a Ph.D. in philosophy.)

Favorite vacation spot?
I love to go everywhere, but Tuscany is a particularly great destination.

Favorite sports team?
Umm. . . I have no idea!

Movies or Broadway?
Movies – because I can snuggle up at home and watch them.

Are you a morning or a night person?
Night person!

Amateur sleuth or professional?
Amateur

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
Socrates is usually by my side, and Jonathan offers some suggestions, now and then – mainly to keep me out of trouble!

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
My days are really flexible, and divided between caring for pets and working at my bakery. I spend a lot of time with Socrates, Tinks and my human friends and family, too. Since I started dating Jonathan, I try to spend evenings with him, sometimes riding the horses he keeps at his house. It’s a full and happy life – made busier by all the murders I get mixed up in!

You can read about Daphne in Something Borrowed, Something Mewed, the fifth book in the “Lucky Paws Petsitting” cozy mystery series, coming May 28, 2019.

Daphne Templeton’s sister Piper is getting married—and their mother is getting carried away. She insists on hiring Sylvan Creek’s top event planner, Abigail Sinclair, who proposes an Independence Day theme complete with Statue of Liberty-inspired bridesmaid dresses. The Poconos will never be the same . . .

At a tension-filled dress fitting, the abrasive wedding planner is found strangled by a garter—a weapon both borrowed and blue. Now Daphne’s services are required not just for organizing the big day, but for figuring out whether one of the in-laws is an outlaw . . .
