It’s only been a few weeks since I moved from Ohio to the Enchanted Village, a themed tourist destination, in Salem, Massachusetts, so it’s still strange to wake up in an unfamiliar room, unfamiliar bed, unfamiliar house.
I’m adjusting more rapidly than my sister Harper and our dog, Miss Demeanor (aka Missy), though. Both of them seem ready to hop the next flight back to Ohio.
I suppose it’s been a big adjustment. Not just the house and the village (“Where Magic Lives”), but to our lives. As witches. We just found out a few weeks ago.
Harper and I are Wishcrafters, witches who can grant wishes using a special spell. Now we work for our aunt Ve (also a Wishcrafter) at her personal concierge service, As You Wish.
As my day starts, I have that burst of unfamiliarity, then it’s off to find coffee, walk Missy, maybe take a jog (I’ve just started this and my muscles aren’t pleased). I examine every face I pass looking for either a thief (there’s a pickpocket in town) or a murderer (there’s been a murder behind Spellbound Bookshop).
Mostly what I find are friendly faces. Tourists having a blast shopping in the quaint village or locals curious about me. It never ceases to amaze me how looks can be deceiving…
Then there’s Nick Sawyer. He’s a local single dad who’s looking into the village crimes. It seems to me he’s keeping some secrets of his own…but maybe I’m imagining that. I don’t want to get to close to him. I’ve sworn off men since my divorce, and Nick is altogether too appealing. Which makes him slightly dangerous.
Throughout the day, when I’m not busy snooping and learning more about the Craft, I’m working. As You Wish promises that no job is too big or too small. My current task is to find a wombat piñata. Not as easy as you might think!
And, of course, there are various wishes to grant throughout the day, but I never dreamed one of those wishes might actually lead to a killer…

Thank you, Dru Ann, for hosting Darcy. 🙂
And thank you, too, Mare! SWAK.
I had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Heather at RWA last year. She is a delightful young woman. I’ve also read many of her other titles and own a few. I’d really love to win a copy of this book. I’m a magic story lover from way back.
