Fatally Frosted by Jessica Beck is the second book in the “Donut Shop” mystery series. Publisher: St. Martin’s Press, August 2010

Attention, All Cooks! April Springs, North Carolina is hosting a grand tour of extraordinary kitchens, and everyone’s invited! Local donut shop owner Suzanne Louise Hart is dying to cook up something fabulous for the event. Unfortunately dying turns out to be the key word.

A local busybody has dropped dead after eating one of Suzanne’s famous treats. A forensic team is soon swarming through the Donut Hearts kitchen, dusting for clues, sifting through sugar, and suspecting the worst of Suzanne. But with the help of police inspector Jake Bishop and her ex-husband Max, Suzanne hopes to clear her good name—before another bad donut is fatally frosted.

Secrets can kill you and that’s what Suzanne finds when her donut is the vehicle for murder. When it appears that the police are only looking at Suzanne, with help from her friends she is determined to clear her name and find the killer. I found this to be an entertaining story with plenty of intrigue as I try to solve the mystery along with Suzanne. My rating: 4 stars
