Hi Everyone:
Name’s Gil, Gilbert Lane. I’m not much of a talker, but Flo asked me to tell you something about myself and our relationship. That story comes to the forefront in Flo’s Lost Love by Sarah Osborne. If you don’t know Sarah’s work, you should. She has a couple of series, and this series is about older women preventing murders during the holiday season. Clever theme, huh? I might use it in one of my plays. You see I’m a writer, like Sarah, but I focus on plays.
I’m pretty sure Flo doesn’t want me to go into a lot of detail about the two of us—she likes to keep her private life private—and our relationship ended a long time ago. Still, it is the reason Flo came to my rescue in Eureka, Nevada, in the middle of winter. I’ve lived in Eureka most of my life, and I love it there. It really is the friendliest town on the loneliest road. The area suits me perfectly—not many people around—but for Flo, it was never where she really wanted to be. She came this time because I called her and asked her to save my life.
Saving my life wasn’t the only reason I wanted her to come. Not even the main reason. I wanted her to come because I hadn’t seen her in nearly fifty years, and I needed to see her. I’ve never been afraid of dying, but I thought there might be a few things we needed to get straight before I did.
Flo always said I was the love of her life as she was mine. We neither of us married after we broke up, but that isn’t to say we didn’t find comfort from others along the way. What we knew at the time we split was that we couldn’t make it work. We tried more than once, but we wanted such different things. I loved my life in rural Eureka, and Flo was a city girl. Some desires can’t be overlooked or ignored no matter how much you love another person.
It was awful—that break up. But we both found new passions. Mine was the theater and Flo’s was rescuing people from harm with her Old Dames Protection Agency. That was one reason I knew she’d come if I called her. But I also knew she’d come for my sake alone. Flo and I still loved each other. I was sure of that, or anyway I was banking on that, and I wanted to see her one more time before I died.
Not that I wanted to die. Don’t get me wrong. I want to live as long as I can, and Flo might just be able to save me from someone who seems to wish to put me out of action. Permanently.
I hope you like the story as much as I liked seeing Flo once more.
Gil

Octogenarian Flo should be delighted with a third case to solve this holiday season, but this one draws her into a past she thought she’d left behind. The love of her life from fifty years ago, Gilbert Lane, begs her to help save his life. He lives in Eureka, Nevada, a small mining town which flourished in the 1870s. Its current claim to fame is the Eureka Opera House, lovingly restored and now home to Gil’s theatrical productions. Is her old boyfriend really in trouble or is he simply being dramatic with hopes he can lure Flo back into his life?
Flo, Maude and bodyguard Kate make the journey into the Wild West where Flo uncovers more than she bargains for. Along with a would-be murderer, Flo discovers the real reason her love affair ended.

Sounds like an interesting long-lost-love relationship.
Hi Sharon, I was kind of waiting for your comment. This is actually my favorite Flo and Maude so far because it is about a long lost and refound relationship. Some of us of a certain age can relate to that. Good luck! Sarah
