Harvey Beckett first appeared in Publishable By Death and one of the best ways to learn about a person is by asking questions, so let’s get to know Harvey.

What is your name?
My given name is Anastasia Lovejoy Beckett, but most everyone calls me Harvey.

How old are you?
44

What is your profession?
I run a bookstore called All Booked Up on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Do you have a significant other?
I do – although I still struggle with how to call him. Boyfriend just doesn’t work.

What is his name and profession?
His name is Daniel Galena, and he’s a mechanic in town and also the most caring, respectful man I know.

Any children?
Nope, no kids for me.

Do you have any siblings?
I don’t.

Do your parents live near you?
They do now. We’re still sorting out how good an idea that is.

Who is your best friend?
Mart Weston. We are roommates, and I wouldn’t want to do any of this life without her.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
Yep, I have a dog and a cat. The dog is a Black Mouth Cur named Mayhem, and she goes everywhere with me. The cat is named Aslan, and she goes wherever she pleases when she pleases, as cats are wont to do.

What town do you live in?
We live in St. Marin’s, Maryland.

Type of dwelling and do you own or rent?
Mart and I own our little cottage.

What is your favorite spot in your home?
The wingback chair in the living room where I read.

Favorite meal and dessert?
A really good cheeseburger with barbecue sauce and white cake with white icing.

Favorite hobby?
I do adore cross-stitching, although I don’t get to do it much these days.

Favorite color?
That shade of blue just blue’s side of teal.

Favorite author?
If pressed to make a choice, I’d probably say Marilynne Robinson, but she’s closely followed by Toni Morrison, Chaim Potok, and A.S. Byatt.

Favorite vacation spot?
Any beach, but only in winter. I’ll take a mountain cabin any day of the year though.

Favorite sports team?
Eh. Not much of a sports fan, but if I value my life, I usually say the Baltimore Ravens.

Movies or live theater?
Movies. I enjoy a play, but the full sensory experience of a movie in the theater is my choice.

Are you a morning or a night person?
Morning. Definitely.

Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
Amateur, and I don’t know that Sheriff Tucker would say I really work “with” him as much as get in his way.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
I get up, get coffee, and then read a bit if I can. In my house, we often have houseguests though, so sometimes, I just sit, sip, and chat. Then, Mayhem and I walk to the bookstore and do our usual morning routine there. Then, it’s most of the day at the shop until my assistant manager Marcus comes in and takes over. Sometimes, I slip out for lunch with Daniel or to follow a hunch about something that Sheriff Tucker would rather me leave alone. Then, it’s home or to a friend’s house for dinner before an easy-going night of TV or games. It’s a quiet life, but I love it.

Bound To Execute is the third book in the St. Marin’s Cozy Mystery Series, released March 17, 2020.

After a great first author event, bookshop owner Harvey Beckett is looking forward to spring days of walking Mayhem, reading in the evening, and maybe even enjoying a snuggle with her favorite mechanic.

But a late evening’s dog walk pushes pause on those plans when she and Mayhem stumble upon the body of the high school gym teacher, a known bully. It doesn’t take long before Harvey and her friends in the waterside town of St. Marin’s are wrapped up in the investigation, and what they discover chills them to the bone.
