Molly Green sits down for a Q&A with dru’s book musings responding to ten or more questions so we can learn more about her. Are you ready? Let’s get to know Molly.
What is your full name?
Molly Anne Green
How old are you?
I’ll be 32 soon.
What is your profession?
I manage Patty’s Plant Place, a garden center with a hiking trail running behind it. I do all the plant work: ordering, growing, tending. My twin sister, May, does all the marketing and accounting work. We inherited the store with our cousin after our grandma died. Somehow, people keep dying on that trail behind our shop, and I’ve helped find the killer every time.
If you have a significant other, what is their name and profession?
My husband, Scott, and I met in college. He is a web programmer at a cybersecurity firm.
Do you have any children?
Scott and I were trying to have a baby for a few years, but even with fertility treatments, it didn’t work. Now we’re going through training to become foster parents.
Who is your best friend?
May is my life long best friend, of course. I also have another best friend, Claudia, who I met in second grade. She and I bonded over the fact that neither of us has a favorite color – we think all the colors are great! She and I usually meet up on Thursdays to hang out after dinner.
Do you have cats, dogs, or other pets?
Sherlock, our garden center cat, lives at Patty’s Plant Place. Scott and I also have a fluffy puppy named Watson. Scott helped name them both after the famous detective and his assistant. It did not go well when our Sherlock and Watson met, though!
What town do you live in?
I still live in the town where I grew up: Hawthorn Heights, Ohio.
What type of dwelling do you own or rent?
Scott, Watson, and I live in a house with a lot of gardens and trees in the backyard.
Do you have any hobbies?
Hiking and reading are my favorite. I also love gardening.
If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
How about “Soil Sooths My Soul.” I could write about how both hiking and plants help me stay “grounded” despite all the craziness of the world, including a few murders around me.
Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
I am definitely not a professional detective. May’s husband is a real detective, and I’ve helped steer him in the right direction a few times. Everyone in my circle has helped me solve our Succulent Sleuth cases: Scott, May, Claudia, plus Theo, another staffer at Patty’s Plant Place. Sherlock has helped more than once, too!

Volunteer water sampling. Development deals. A dead businessman in the woods.
While volunteering with a local stream restoration group, Molly and her husband, Scott, expect to end the day with nothing more to show for it than muddy hiking shoes and water samples. Instead, they stumble upon a dead body left in the woods behind the Buckeye Trail. The victim turns out to be Upton North—an unpopular developer with business ties to half the town and enemies to match.
As Molly starts asking questions, she uncovers a web of grudges involving tenants, activists, and business owners. She’ll have to follow clues from forest trails to forgotten basements—and confront just how far greed and intimidation pushed the wrong person too far.
With a busy garden center to manage, and a beloved black and white cat occasionally underfoot, Molly digs into another Succulent Sleuth case where the roots of the crime run deep.
About the author
Iris March is the pen name for Maureen Wise. She lives in Ohio with her husband, son, and three cats on the edge of the Cleveland Metroparks. She’s always had a reputation for killing house plants and now she’s killing people off in books? Coincidence? Perhaps not. The author has worked in the sustainability field her entire career and has always loved reading. Wise also enjoys hiking and running, but unfortunately has never had a green thumb like her mother. She is a member of her local Northeast Ohio Sisters in Crime chapter. Learn more about the Succulent Sleuth Series at IrisMarchBooks.com.
