Jamie sits down for a question-and-answer session with dru’s book musings so that we, the readers, can get to know her better.

What is your full name?
Jamie Forest

How old are you?
32

What is your profession?
I have an MFA in poetry which, of course, doesn’t pay the bills. Instead of writing poems, I am a freelance editor mostly working with romance writers. However, I’ll take just about anything for a fee.

Do you have a significant other?
Maybe? Jim Monroe.

If so, what is his name and profession?
Jim is a state trooper with a complicated past.

Do you have any children?
No

Do you have any siblings?
I’m an only child

Are your parents nearby?
My mother died when I was sixteen and my father died last year.

Who is your best friend?
That’s a hard question. Since moving from New York City to the Northwoods of Minnesota I’ve found friendship with a number of people. My main “go to” person is Jim Monroe.

Do you have any pets?
Yes! Bronte, a rescue lab mix who loves to fetch and chase squirrels and sometimes roll in dead fish.

What town do you live in?
I live about ten miles from the nearest town in a cabin on Lake Larissa in Jackpine County, Minnesota

Do you live in a small town or a big city?
Jackpine County is a small rural county—a tourist destination in the summer and quiet in the winter.

What type of dwelling do you own or rent?
I own the old family cabin on the lake built by my Ojibwe grandmother. It’s cozy and remote.

What is your favorite spot in your home?
A sitting rock on the shores of Lake Larissa. It’s my relaxation and “think” spot. I can enjoy a cup of coffee, throw sticks for Bronte to fetch, and listen to the rhythm of the waters.

What is your favorite meal and dessert?
I’ll eat just about anything but anchovies. I love apple pie ala mode

Do you have any hobbies?
I am trying to garden—not very successfully and I’m learning how-to cross-country ski—a skill I never needed in New York City!

What is your favorite vacation spot?
The shores of Lake Superior

What is your idea of a really fun time?
Thanksgiving with friends in my cabin. Good food, good company and a warm fire.

If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
How I Left New York City for A Cabin by the Lake and Nearly Went Broke

Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
I seem to stumble into intrigue. When I do, my partner is an eighty-something lawyer named Clarence Engstrom

What is a typical day in your life like in general and when you are on a case?
I spend several hours a day editing manuscripts. In the summer and fall I walk in the woods with Bronte. This winter, I’m learning to cross-country ski and snowshoe. When I’m “on a case” I’m focused on getting as much information as possible by snooping, interviewing people, and sometimes ruffling a few feathers.
