Hello, I’m Julienne LaMere. Nice to meet you. I have long had a dream to travel the world. I’m not talking about a week or two on vacation, but live for a couple years in each location and get to know the people and cultures. When I was still a teen, I zeroed in on luxury resort management as my ideal way to accomplish this. I feel so fortunate and blessed when my “customer relations” reception desk job at the local historic resort in my hometown of Colorado Springs put me in a position to apply for and get a manager-in-training job.
It’s hard work learning all the facets of a resort from customer loyalty to golf course issues, from seasonal occupancy challenges to community involvement, and the biggest challenge is resort security. While I’m beginning to live my dream, I have recently run smack dap into the security side of resort management more than I ever considered. I’m not talking guests who steal from a purse or bump a room lock, I mean murder.
My days are usually behind the scenes at my desk handling the multitude of administrative tasks and issues. But over the past year I’ve had more exposure to murders than non-police persons should ever expect.
For instance, I was recently sent to a health and wellness spa just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The owner of my resort where I’m training had purchased this already established resort. As part of the transition, the new resort would be switched over to our standard software system. I was sent to train that resort’s staff on the software. I was a natural choice since I had started working at the reception desk side of operations before moving into management, so I understood more of the software than anybody else already on the payroll.
I jumped at the opportunity because it was travel and Santa Fe is culturally rich, and my boyfriend Mason could join me and we could get some quality time together. It was a win-win situation. I’d spend my days training while Mason took landscape photos for a calendar company and in the evenings we could dance and romance. It was a perfect arrangement. I was living my dream…
Until the first night when I was enjoying a moonlight kiss in Mason’s arms and a dying man grabs my ankle from out of the surrounding floral landscaping. With his dying breath he proclaims some curse got him. See what I mean! Before you can say “complementary night’s stay” the owner is expecting me to speed the resolution of the murder along to get the resort out of the news. Because that man was a high-powered venture capitalist investor featured in business magazines and the resort is now on the evening news and not in a good way.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my job and I’m excited to see more of the world. But every job has aspects you don’t like much and for me it’s the murders that crop up a bit too often. I hate to say it, but I’m actually not bad at helping the police solve the murders. Not enough to change professions, though. I hope to see you soon at my resort, I’ll give you a complimentary drink coupon at the swanky lounge overlooking the mountain.

It all began when a dying man with an arrow in his chest grabs her ankle.
During a heat wave at a Santa Fe resort, Julienne has the resort owner pressuring her to solve the murder. The victim is a high profile business man who made enemies rather than friends, leaving Julienne with a roster of suspects. She was supposed to be training the staff and spending quality time with Mason rather than investigating a murder. The heat turns up when an old girlfriend of Mason’s checks in and is determined to get back together.
