Sometimes the best way to know a person is by asking questions, where you can learn more about what makes them tick.

Let’s see what Liz has to say.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
What is your name?
– – Liz Talbot—that’s what most folks call me, anyway. If Mamma’s upset, she’ll trot out all three of my names: Elizabeth Suzanne Talbot. Daddy calls me Tutie, shorthand for Fruity Tutie, on account of my aversion to germs. My husband calls me Slugger. That’s a reference to an occasion where I might’ve lost my temper with a client’s husband when he came across the table at her with intent to do bodily harm.

How old are you?
– – I’m in my early thirties.

What is your profession?
– – I’m a private investigator.

Do you have a significant other?
– – Yes—a while back I married my business partner.

What is his name?
– – Nate Andrews

What is his profession?
– – He’s also a private investigator.

Any children?
– – No.

Do you have any sibling(s)?
– – I have an older brother, Blake, and a younger sister, Merry. Yes, I am the middle child.

Cats, dogs or other pets?
– – Nate and I have a Golden Retriever. His name is Rhett. Actually, I’ve had Rhett for longer than Nate and I have been married.

What town do you live in?
– – Stella Maris, South Carolina

House or building complex?
– – We have a beach house.

Do you rent or own?
– – It’s ours. I inherited it from Gram.

What is your favorite spot in your house?
– – That varies by my mood. I love all the porches. I guess if I had to pick a favorite spot it would be the deck out back. We can watch the waves from there.

Who is your best friend?
– – My husband, Nate is my best friend. My best girlfriend is Colleen Stevens. She ahh. . .the thing about Colleen is, she’s been dead for eighteen years. Now she’s a guardian spirit—not a ghost. She gets all riled up when you call her a ghost. And for Heaven’s sake, don’t call her a guardian angel. You’ll get a lecture on angels.

Amateur sleuth or professional?
– – We’re professionals.

Whom do you work with when sleuthing?
– – Well, I work with Nate. We work for clients that hire us to help them out with a variety of problems.

Favorite meal?
– – Wow—how to pick a favorite. Probably a steak with truffle butter, twice baked potatoes, a salad, and french bread with a glass or two of pinot noir.

Favorite dessert?
– – Hmm. . .you ask hard questions. I love chocolate anything. But I love fruit tarts too. And cheesecake. Okay—chocolate cheesecake with strawberries on top.

Favorite hobby?
– – I love to read.

Favorite vacation spot?
– – St. John, USVI

Favorite color?
– – Most days it’s blue. Some days I favor yellow or green.

Favorite author?
– – I have so many favorite authors. If pressed to pick one—nah. I can’t do it. Three of many are Joshilyn Jackson, Harlan Coben, and Sandra Brown.

Favorite sports team?
– – I really don’t watch professional sports that much. But I always pull for the home team—whichever one is closest to me. In college sports I always pull for Clemson if they’re playing. That’s my alma mater. If they’re not playing, I pull for any South Carolina team that is.

Movies or Broadway?
– – I love them both!

Are you a morning or a night person?
– – A morning person for sure.Nate and I get up at five a.m. most mornings and run on the beach.

In a few sentences, what is a typical day in your life like?
– – When we’re working a case, often I’m running surveillance on someone (and sometimes eavesdropping on their conversations). Other days I might be doing background work using several subscription databases plus public records. And then there are the days I go undercover to get the information I need on a subject. Those are my favorite days. I usually have to wear a disguise while pretending to be someone else. My least favorite days are when we have to sift through someone’s garbage. Did I mention I’m a bit of a germaphobe?

You can read about Liz in Lowcountry Bookshop, the seventh book in the “Liz Talbot” mystery series, coming May 29, 2018. The first book in the series is Lowcountry Boil.

Lowcountry PI Liz Talbot returns to the streets of Charleston in the seventh installment of Susan M. Boyer’s USA TODAY bestselling mystery series.

Between an epic downpour and a King Tide, those historic streets are flooded—and dangerous. A late night tragic accident along the Lower Battery leads Liz Talbot straight to her next case.

Who’s the client? Well, now, therein lies the first puzzle. When the police arrive at the scene of the accident, Poppy Oliver claims she’s only trying to help.

But the dent on the front of her Subaru and the victim’s injuries provoke a certain Charleston police detective’s suspicious nature. A wealthy, anonymous benefactor hires Liz and her partner Nate Andrews to prove Poppy Oliver’s innocence.

What exactly was Poppy Oliver up to? Is she a random good Samaritan who happens upon the accident scene? Or perhaps this tragedy wasn’t an accident. She just might be his abused wife’s accomplice.

Why does everyone involved in this case have a sudden burning urge for reading material, leading them to the same charming bookshop along the waterfront?

From a risqué, exclusive club in an old plantation to an upscale resale shop in the historic King Street shopping district to a downtown graveyard crawling with ghosts, Liz tracks a group of women who band together to help victims of domestic violence.

In her most challenging case yet, Liz fears she may find a killer, but justice may prove elusive.
