Can eating hummus kill someone?
The short answer: it can.
Hi! I’m Lucy Berberian, a recovering Philadelphia lawyer. After my job threw me a curveball, I returned home to my family’s Mediterranean restaurant, Kebab Kitchen, at the Jersey Shore. A hummus bar is the newest addition and a customer favorite—all types of flavors are offered from roasted red pepper, to apricot, to traditional hummus. I’ve avoided home for a while, mostly due to a match making mama and an ex that broke my heart. My mother is still after me to produce her next grandchild and the ex. . .well, he’s better looking than before and working as a chef at Kebab Kitchen. Plus, my family’s expectations and smothering can be as thick as the sugar syrup on my mother’s baklava—sticky, sweet, and as effective as super glue.
A bonus is staying with my long-time friend, Katie Watson, and her husband, an Ocean Crest police officer. And I have missed the Jersey shore, the sound of seagulls squawking, the scent of funnel cake, and the sight of the wooden roller coaster at the boardwalk.
Things are looking good. Until, well, they go south and fast. My former high school rival turns out to be the new town health inspector. After tallying up bogus violations at the restaurant, we have a monumental spat. But when she shows up to eat at Kebab Kitchen, I’m the unlucky gal who has to wait on her. A crazy day turns deadly when she eats at the hummus bar, then drops dead in the parking lot.
The problem is I’m suspect number one. I served my bitter rival her last meal. Was it food poisoning or murder?
Naturally, my first thought is to ferret out the truth. With Katie’s help we embark on a sleuthing escapade to prove my innocence and save my family’s restaurant. And if we don’t find the real killer, I’m in big trouble.
Just an average day at the Jersey shore.
If you want to find out where Lucy’s adventures lead her and her friends and quirky family, please pick up Hummus and Homicide, the first book in the NEW “Kebab Kitchen” mystery series. Stabbed in the Baklava and One Feta in the Grave are coming soon after!
When Lucy Berberian quits her Philadelphia law firm and heads home to Ocean Crest, she knows what she’s getting—the scent of funnel cake, the sight of the wooden roller coaster, and the tastes of her family’s Mediterranean restaurant. But murder wasn’t on the menu. . .
Things are slow in the off-season in this Jersey Shore town, but Lucy doesn’t mind. She doesn’t even mind waitressing at the Kebab Kitchen. Her parents have put in a new hummus bar, with ever flavor from lemon to roasted red pepper. It’s fun to see their calico cat again, and to catch up with her old BFF, who’s married to a cop now.
She could do without Heather Banks, though. The Gucci-toting ex-cheerleader is still as nasty as she was back in high school. . .and unfortunately, she’s just taken over as the local health inspector. Just minutes after eating at the Kebab Kitchen—where she’s tallied up a whole list of bogus violations—she falls down dead in the street. Word on the grapevine is it’s homicide, and Lucy’s the number one suspect. . .
