Hello, everyone, and a big shout out to Dru for having me here today! I’m Lucy McGuffin and I make the best muffins in the world. Not that I would say that, because I’m not the least bit braggy, but others have said that, and who am I to argue with them?
I also have another talent. One I’ve tried my whole life to hide. I’m a human lie-detector, which sounds pretty awesome, right? Wrong. Catching your friends and family in daily lies can be awkward. Not to mention annoying, because let’s face it, how many times can a girl hear, “It’s me, not you,” and keep a straight face?
I have to admit, though, that being able to tell when someone is lying has helped me become a bit of an amateur sleuth. I solved my first murder a few weeks ago with the help of my new rescue dog, Paco. If you think I have skills, you should see him. He’s a ghost whisperer. I’m not quite sure how he does it, but he leads me to dead bodies, much to the chagrin of the new cop in town, Travis Fontaine.
Travis is smart (and kind of cute), but he doesn’t have my special gift for ferreting out lies. I used to think my gift was a curse, but now I think maybe I was given it to help solve crime. I say help, Travis says interfere. Whatever. The point is the bad guy got put away, and I believe that the end justifies the means. Travis, on the other hand, thinks I should stick to baking muffins. His exact words were something like “Stay
away from my crime scenes, and I’ll stay out of your kitchen.” Sorry, but that isn’t going to happen. If something bad is happening in my home town of Whispering Bay, then I need to help. Good thing I have my best friend, Will, as well as Paco to help me.
Speaking of Will, I’ve been in love with him ever since I was seven. Not that he’s ever figured it out. Maybe one day I’ll tell him. Or maybe not. Ever since Travis moved to town, I’ve been a bit confused on the Will situation. Will is loyal, kind, smart and charming. Travis is suspicious, aggravating, and highly opinionated. Plus, he’s a doughnut man.
Is it possible to have feelings for two guys who are polar opposites of each other? I guess time will tell. In the meantime, I think Paco has just spotted another dead body. . .
You can read more about Lucy in Beach Blanket Homicide, the first book in the “Whispering Bay” cozy mystery series and Whack The Mole, the second book, released February 22, 2019.
Everyone agrees that Lucy McGuffin bakes the best muffins in Whispering Bay, but she’s got another talent, one that she’s tried her whole life to hide. Lucy can always tell when a person is lying or telling the truth. Being a human lie detector isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Especially when you really don’t want the answer to the universal question, “Does this dress make my butt look too big?”
When Lucy is hired to cater the grand opening celebration of the city’s new community center, she stumbles across the dead body of Abby Delgado, a prominent member of the Sunshine Ghost Society. Lucy’s brother, Father Sebastian, a local priest, is the last person to have seen Abby alive. Convinced he’ll be breaking a confidence, Sebastian refuses to cooperate with the police, forcing Lucy to put her skills to the test to save her brother’s good name.
Enter the town’s new hotshot deputy, Travis Fontaine. Travis doesn’t want an amateur like Lucy snooping around his turf, so he offers her a deal. He’ll stay out of her kitchen if she’ll stay away from his crime scene. But Lucy isn’t about to let her brother’s fate rest in the hands of an arrogant cop.
Good thing she has her best friend, Will, and her new rescue dog, Paco, to back her up, because it’s up to Lucy to figure out what everyone in the quaint little beachside town is hiding.

WOW! This book sounds super duper thrilling and funny! I actually prefer muffins…..especially banana nut muffins…..yum yum! This is a new author to me and a new series and can’t wait to read it! Thanks so much for the chance to win!
I love banana nut muffins too! Thanks for leaving a comment!
I enjoy both muffins and doughnuts but I think I would have to pick doughnuts as my favorite though. There’s nothing better then a good doughnut when I’m craving something sweet!
🙂
Nothing beats a homemade muffin! Not even a warm doughnut dipped in cinnamon sugar 🙂 Can’t wait to read more about the doughnut vs muffin debate …
Oh my do I have to choose??? I love a good Boston Creme donut or a chocolate chocolate muffin. Unfortunately my sweet tooth finds pleasure in either of them.
Muffins are a delectable treat. Especially lemon muffins to start my day and have with tea.
A hot out of the oven muffin wins all the time. So perfect.
Muffins of course! Corn, chocolate chip or blueberry will do it for me anytime. LOL
Please toss my name into the “Magic Contest Hat” Dru. I’d love to be your lucky winner.
I have to pick? Since muffins seem more readily available and “healthy” I’ll go with a good donut. Although it’s been ages since I’ve had one.
Doughnuts any time.
I love them both, but prefer muffins!
Muffins–especially muffins with great big tops!! So yummy! Ms. Geraci is a new-to-me author. Would love to win an autographed copy of Beach Blanket Homicide. Thank you for this opportunity.
I think this is going to be a fun series, While I love muffins-especially home made, I gotta say doughnuts are a favorite treat for me! Thanks for the give-away and good luck with the new book as well!
So hard to choose! I love them both. It depends on my mood.
Doughnuts come in first, muffins come in second. Sounds like a great new series.
I’m a doughnuts girl. (Muffins are good, too, tho.)
Muffins…. doughnuts sometimes give me heartburn.
Lemon poppyseed muffins for me – but what adorable covers! Best wishes on your series, Maria.
I start my day with a banana nut muffin!!
I enjoy both but if I have to chose, I would go with donuts. This is a great sounding new series. thank you for the review
Donuts–there’s nothing I don’t like about fried dough. Sounds like a great books.
Donuts–there’s nothing about fried dough that I don’t like. This sounds like a great book.
