Eddie Cayce sits down for a question-and-answer session with dru’s book musings so that we can learn more about her. Let’s get to know Eddie.

What is your full name?
Eddie Cayce. My mother was a descendant of Edward Cayce so even though my family name is Ardronic, I carry her maiden name.

How old are you?
27

What is your profession?
Interior designer and antique store owner in New Orleans

Do you have a significant other?
Kind of – okay, well yeah.

What is their name and profession?
Beauregard (Bubba) King. He’s in security and started out as my very unwelcomed bodyguard.

Do you have any children?
Not yet. Unless you count Lilac. She’s kind of my foster child now.

Do you have any siblings?
Yes, a brother. Nic Ardronic. He runs the family business now that my parents are gone. We own the majority of the fortune telling shops in New Orleans.

Are your parents nearby?
No, they passed away a few years ago.

Who is your best friend?
Weirdly, it’s Lilac – she lives with me in my new condo. She’ll be starting college this fall and I’m freaking out just like an empty nester mom. Bubba’s mom, Heather King is also close, but she doesn’t know I talk to the dead.

Do you have cats, dogs, or other pets?
I have a dog – Dexter. He used to be Dr. Dexter, like all of my childhood pets, but it just didn’t fit him, so now he’s just Dexter. Bubba has a cat, Fluffy, who stays at the condo when Bubba stays with us.

What town do you live in?
New Orleans, LA

What type of dwelling do you own or rent?
I just bought my first home. It’s a condo and the building is warded against ghosts. Which gives me (and Lilac who is also a medium) some peace and quiet. New Orleans is filled with spirits and they all want to talk.

What is your favorite spot in your home?
My living room. I love curling up and reading on the couch.

What is your favorite meal and dessert?
Oh, that’s a hard one. I guess I’d have to say jambalaya and apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. Annamae, our housekeeper/cook at the family compound is an amazing cook.

Do you have any hobbies?
Besides reading? I’m pretty busy with my businesses and studying New Orleans history. Bubba and Lilac are always trying to get me to play board games with them, but truthfully, I’d rather be reading a good book. Although I do play when they force me.

What music do you listen to?
Southern rock and soft seventies rock. I know people hate them, but I love the Bee Gees.

What is your favorite color?
Asking an interior designer that is like asking an author to name their favorite writing instruments. But right now, it’s cornflower blue.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
I love a big city. I’ve lived in Seattle and loved walking the busy streets. Lately, I’ve been planning a trip to New York, including a few shows and a lot of walking.

Are you a morning or night person?
Morning. Night finds me on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa or a glass of wine and my current book.

What is your idea of a really fun time?
Getting together with friends and enjoying our time together. Eating, playing their games, or even just hanging out. I like my people around me.

If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
A Haunted Shop – Learning to ignore the ghosts.

Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
I’m definitely an amateur. My contact at the police department is Charles Boone. He gets all the weird cases and the ones I try to solve definitely fall into that category.

What is a typical day in your life like?
Lilac loves cooking so she makes breakfast and then we ride the streetcar into town. (See why I’m going to miss her if she goes away to school.) When we get to the shop on Royal Street, I have a meeting with my staff and plan my day. Usually Tessa and Harry stop in to say good morning. They’re the ghosts who live in the shop. Then Heather and I go and work on some design projects – most of the time in the area. It’s fun turning a place from just a house into a home that reflects our client’s needs. Then we either eat in town at one of our amazing restaurants, go to the family compound to talk with Nic about business stuff, or head home where we all pitch in to make something. Lilac usually takes the lead. That’s a normal day with no murder or ghost telling me that they were killed. Or my neighbor showing up since Alexander is part of the knights who protect our world from the monsters.

Yes, my life has its boring days, but mostly, I’m involved in figuring out the puzzle that surrounds me. Part my life, part the world around me = it’s all a not so typical day in my life.

Summer in New Orleans might be hot, sticky, and muggy, but for the first time in a long time, Eddie felt like she was right where she wanted to be. Until Cayce’s Treasures got a new shipment of antiques with a few angry spirits attached. Then her neighbor arrived unannounced at his condo after the body of a local fortune teller was found on the streetcar. His interest in the killing could only mean one thing. There was a monster nearby.

With Lilac in and out of town on her college hunt, Eddie had thought it might be a quiet summer. She was wrong.
