I’m M. Glenda Rosen (aka Marcia G. Rosen), I’ve been writing mysteries for the past several years after many years of writing non-fiction including “My Memoir Workbook,” and “The Woman’s Business Therapist.” Writing is my great passion. That and my family.
I now live in Carmel, joining my sons and their families who live in California. My heart is still in New York where I had lived for many years: the energy, the culture, theater, wonderful bookstores and lots of places to shoe shopping. Hey, everyone needs a hobby!
Well, yes, I’ve been writing most of my adult life for myself and my business. I owned a successful Marketing/Public relations agency for over 25 years, which I opened in Albuquerque, New Mexico, then expanded to New York City and The Hamptons. I also started giving writing workshops and presentations on a variety of topic including book marketing.
I often felt like I was a Business Detective taking care of many clients seeking solutions to their business problems. In New York I was on the board of nine business and professional women’s organizations and several more in Long Island. I still feel a deep sense of interest and concern regarding equality and fair treatment of women in all walks of life.
I’ve been an entrepreneur since my mid-twenties. I owned two nursery schools in Buffalo, New York and at the end of ten years I had two schools with close to 200 children. Whew!!! Ever help 3 and 4 years olds put on boots when there’s a foot of snow outside? Time to move and change careers. I was married at the time and our family moved to Smithtown, Long Island. No, I’m not married now.
I love reading, (favorite authors Umberto Eco, Robert Parker, Elizabeth Peters), writing, watching PBS mysteries, the ones produced in Great Britain are wonderful, so are a few on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries featuring ones based on books by women authors. I also enjoy stimulating, intelligent conversations and discussions and friends who are smart, fun, funny, kind and generous in heart and spirit.
Several years ago I began writing my first mystery series, now 4 books, “Dying To Be Beautiful,” based in The Hamptons. I enjoy public speaking and also years ago produced and hosted a radio show and a television show.
Being a morning person I usually write in the morning at least 4-5 days a week. When the book I’m working on is with my editor I will usually work on the next book or I do put quite a bit of time and effort into planning and working on book marketing. Also it takes time to prepare for presentations and attending mystery writing conferences like Malice Domestic at the end of April.
Yes, I am so pleased to be an author with Level Best Books and excited about future plans and opportunities for my new mystery series being published by them, “The Senior Sleuths.”
I believe writing mysteries is in my DNA! I have about a half dozen articles I’ve written about “My Father and Me,” and “Modern Noir” being published including a profile in “Mystery Scene” Magazine, Spring, 2018 Issue.
You can read about Dead in Bed, the first book in the NEW “Senior Sleuths” mystery series.
Like Nick and Nora Charles from “The Thin Man” series, Dick and Dora Zimmerman in “The Senior Sleuths” solve crimes, especially murders. Along with Zero the Bookie fashioned after the author’s father) and a fascinating cast of other characters (such as Frankie Socks, fresh out of the Witness Protection Program), the Zimmermans, known as The Zimms, have the time, the money, the smarts and the chutzpah, to get involved in murder and mayhem, even when warned by police and criminals to stay away. . .or else!
In these modern noir stories, the hard-boiled detectives are soft-boiled sleuths whose inner shell is softer and gentler, although their outer shell is still tough. Of course, it doesn’t matter, hard-boiled or soft-boiled, they can still be nearly beaten by the bad guys. But it is the puzzle of the mystery and putting the pieces together to solve it that matters.
