Lydia Krause sits down for a question-and-answer session with dru’s book musings so that we can learn more about her. Let’s get to know Lydia.



What is your full name?
My name is Lydia Krause.

How old are you?
56

What is your profession?
I’m retired now, though I have a part-time job at a restaurant-catering house. I used to be the president and CEO of my own company.

Do you have a significant other?
Sort of

What is their name and profession?
His name is Sol Molina. He’s a homicide detective.

Do you have any children?
I have two grown daughters, both married. My daughter Meredith has two daughters.

Do you have any siblings?
I had two sisters. One committed suicide. The other is an Assistant DA.

Are your parents nearby?
No. They died some years ago.

Who is your best friend?
Barbara Taylor. She lives at Twin Lakes, too.

Do you have cats, dogs, or other pets?
Yes, I have a red Tom named Reggie.

What town do you live in?
I live in Twin Lakes, an over-55 gated community in Suffolk County, Long Island.

What type of dwelling do you own or rent?
I own my home. Ranch style, all on one floor and it faces one of the lakes.

What is your favorite spot in your home?
My living room because I have some of my husband’s large sculpture pieces here.

What is your favorite meal and dessert?
A medley of seafood that includes lobster. Dessert: anything with dark chocolate.

Do you have any hobbies?
I love watching my granddaughters.

What music do you listen to?
Classical

What is your favorite color?
Violet

What is your favorite vacation spot?
Traveling through Europe.

Are you a morning or night person?
A morning person.

What is your idea of a really fun time?
Going out for dinner with Sol or my girlfriends.

If you were to write a memoir, what would you call it?
An Unfinished Life

Amateur or professional sleuth and whom do you work with?
Amateur sleuth; I get help from my friends, Barbara and Caroline. Sometimes Sol resents what he considers my intruding in his territory. Other times he accepts the help I offer because I have more access to the people involved in the deaths that take place in MURDER IN THE AIR. (One very old; two recent.)

What is a typical day in your life like?
Some days I work at Carrington House, the restaurant-catering house where I have a managerial position. Other days, as co-chair of the Twin Lakes’ New Development Committee, I attend meetings related to the construction of our second clubhouse. Occasionally, I babysit. And I get to see Sol a few times during the week; how often depends on how his homicide cases are going.

A former Spanish teacher, Marilyn Levinson writes mysteries, novels of suspense, and books for kids. Her books have received many accolades. As Allison Brook she writes the Haunted Library series. Death Overdue, the first in the series, was an Agatha nominee for Best Contemporary Novel. Death on Dickens Island, the first book in her new series, will be out this October. Marilyn lives on Long Island, where many of her books take place. She loves traveling, reading, doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku, chatting on FaceTime with her grandkids and playing with her kitties, Romeo and Juliet.
