Hello again from the cat and dog cozy mystery series authors! We’re thrilled to be visiting the wonderful Dru Ann today, and we’re so thankful to all of you who are following along on our tour! Today we’re going to let our starring animals take over again and answer the question “How would you describe a typical day in your life?”
Biscuit the ginger tabby, head cat in Alison Golden’s Reverend Annabelle Dixon Cozy Mystery series: I sleep mostly and I like to eat so my day revolves around those two things. I live in a vicarage connected with the village church, but just about everyone knows me so I roam around a lot. Secretly, although my human doesn’t know this, I have several homes where I can go to sleep and get fed. It makes a change. I also love cupcakes, although I think people have been told not to give me any because they aren’t as plentiful as they have been in the past.
Snickerdoodle the corgi, head dog in Meredith Potts’s Daley Buzz series: The day always begins with me begging for food. Once my belly is full, a walk is in order. I wouldn’t be doing my duty as a dog if I didn’t take a sniff of the entire neighborhood. From there, my day is all about playing…and getting belly rubs. Of course, a good nap or two doesn’t hurt.
Tilly the golden retriever, head dog in Kathi Daley’s Tess and Tilly Cozy Mystery series: I have a very important job delivering the daily mail alongside my human Tess. Of course when you live in a small town where friends are family and family are friends, it is only natural to deliver the local news along with the mail. When I’m not helping Tess solve the latest mystery to grip the town, I help her train dogs at the shelter where we volunteer.
Dizzy the Labrador hound mix, head dog in Sandi Scott’s Seagrass Sweets Cozy Mysteries: Even though I sleep the days away, I still rise early to wake the family up each morning and ask for a walk. I’m getting older, but I still find the energy to jump on any visitor that comes to my house and greet them with sloppy wet kisses that my human calls licks. 🙂
Hamish the Maine Coon, head cat in Alannah Rogers’s Beatrice Young Cozy Cat Mysteries: I wake up at the foot of my human, Beatrice’s bed, hoping that no one kicks me before I’m ready to wake up. Usually, Beatrice’s human, Matthew, gets up first to make her coffee so I follow him downstairs and I yowl at him until he gives me the yummy crunchy things in my bowl. Then I sit in the window seat overlooking the forest and I have a nice long bath in the sunshine. When Beatrice’s ready to go to work at her Cozy Cat Cafe, I jump in the truck with her. While she’s baking or doing paperwork, I have a nap in my bed or I prowl around the cafe and check for potential dangers. If Beatrice is out and about solving a crime, I go with her, which usually ends up with me staking out a killer or trying to scratch someone who is trying to do bad things to my human. Our days are usually action packed. If it’s the weekend and no one’s doing bad things, we like to go for hikes in the woods or snuggle up on the couch and watch Netflix.
Paw the Saint Bernard, head dog in Sandra Baublitz’s Dog Detective series: Eating, napping, catching criminals, digging in the garden. Seriously. It’s a lot of work protecting my owner, Clarissa, when she noses into mysteries. I work in meals in between trailing our suspects. Food is very important to a Saint Bernard. And please, no brandy jokes, okay? A quick forty winks and I’m ready to track our suspects in the afternoon. Then supper and a long night’s sleep curled next to my human.
Charli the Siamese, head cat in Claire Kane’s Siamese Sleuth Mystery series: I get up early with Harlow, have breakfast, sit out on the balcony wall and observe the morning traffic, neighbors, and pedestrians. Malcolm, the Scottish terrier from next door, will come out on his balcony and call me over. I walk along a narrow ledge to get to him, then spend my day playing with him, visiting with Harlow, and walking along the shopping district, listening to the latest gossip.
Meaux the Schnauzer, head dog in Colleen Mooney’s New Orleans Go Cup Chronicles: My job’s to get my owner up at 6:00 am. I have a busy day and she has lots to do. I wake up naturally at that time and after a cold nose in her face or ear she gets up and lets me out along with whatever rescues are here waiting for forever homes. I teach them how to investigate the yard, bark at the early morning joggers and check out the neighborhood through the fence. Then, I make my way to the back door and scratch on it so she knows to come open it and feed us our breakfast. Sometimes I bring her a present I find or catch in the yard—a bird in flight, a squirrel or a turtle. Getting that turtle up the steps to the back door was harder than you would think.
Gus the golden retriever, head dog in Tammy L. Grace’s Cooper Harrington Detective novels: Coop has insomnia, so he is up at all hours, but I sleep through all his antics. Most mornings I eat my dog food and then snag a nibble of Coop’s breakfast. Coop and I drive to work, and I spend much of the day in my leather chair in his office or near the front desk visiting with Annabelle. I go with Coop to follow up on cases and usually wait in the Jeep unless we’re in a dog-friendly zone. I like to end the workday with a walk in the park.
Matty the tortoiseshell, head cat in Paige Sleuth’s Cozy Cat Caper Mystery series: As a cat, I can’t dish out my own breakfast so first I have to wake up Kat, my human. This often involves patting her face and stomping on her torso. Once I’m fed I indulge in my favorite pastime: napping. I can sleep for hours. When I’m not resting, I can be found eating, scheming over ways to get outside (I love being outside!), playing with my brother Tom, or helping Kat fight crime in our small town of Cherry Hills, Washington. In fact, the very first crime I helped solve was my former human’s murder. But Kat tells that story better than I do, so you’ll have to get the details from her.

Della: My husband says he is the butler and gets the door for our 4 Schnauzers (I also do rescue and have an extra one here and there), and I’m the cook who feeds them. They live here and we serve!
I have 2 cats. Barnabas and Belle. Barnabas is a night owl and drives me nuts as I’m a light sleeper. He comes in the bedroom and gets into everything that can make a noise then he sneak attacks a sleeping Belle and she starts hissing and they both start running around. My husband wonders why I am tired all the time and need a nap, the cats nap with me. Thank you for this chance at the giveaway.
I know what you mean, Paula. My senior cat, Socky, wakes me multiple times a night by patting my face. I think he wants me to pay attention to him all the time.

Our cat likes to be intensely clingy in the morning, howling for attention. Then, when I sit down to give her a lap, she hops away and curls up on her blanket, because cat.

As if to say “Okay, human, be ready to be at my beck and call. Now I’m taking a nap.” At least, that’s what I think my cats are saying to me.

When my daughter got married, I inherited Sassy, her box turtle of 25+ years. She ended up with an Australian Shepherd and a Labradoodle. I am a frequent babysitter to those sweet dogs. They like to get up early and race outside…breakfast should be waiting for them when they come back inside! Then they like to get on my bed and convince me to snuggle with them. That is the sweetest part of my day. After that it is play-nap-play-eat-play-nap— you get the idea. I know they make my days less stressful when they are here!🐶oznut4@aol
Barbara, I know how energetic a Labradoodle can be. I pet sit my neighbor’s and all she wants to do is play with her ball and frisbee.
What great grand-dogs! Not knowing much about turtles, I had to look up a box turtle’s lifespan after reading your comment. 50 years on average, and they can live over 100. Wow! I had no idea. –Marla (aka Paige Sleuth)
Johnny (aka John Stamos)here. I am the main man in the Robinson pack. Well, okay, I am the only man but I am number one in Mom’s heart anyway. We are a lazy crew. We must eat the minute Dad’s feet touch the floor. I do a barky, jumpy, twisty dance down the hall to my crate. Then after we eat we go outside through our very own door. Then I come back in to bed to snuggle with Mom in bed. Every now and then we hear a strange sound and run outside barking to save Mom from whatever is out there. We have really good ears so we do this often. Then we come back in and sleep till dinner.
Hello, Johnny! You are the main man and what a good job you do protecting your Mom! That is one of most important jobs of a loyal dog. Who knows what that sound may be?

We are now down to only one cat, a beautiful 14 year old red aby.
He loves his people and even manages to survive mauling by our almost 2 year old granddaughter who adores him!
Abyssinians are beautiful cats and yours sounds very patient and loving!

I have two cats, Hamilton and Jefferson. They are both pretty good sleepers, although Hamilton some times wants to look out the bedroom window around 3 AM. In order to do that he has to try to pry open the blinds and he is not quiet about it. Good thing he’s so cute!
I image there are some fascinating things for a cat to watch at 3 AM.
My cat Anna Belle loves to sit behind the blinds too, no matter the time of day. But like you said, she’s cute so she gets away with a lot! –Marla (aka Paige Sleuth)
I have an 8 week old tortie kitten(Bella)that is wild and into everything in my house, I can rarely find her but at night she comes out of her hidey hole and gets in bed with me and the dog. I have a 13 year old ginger long haired dachshund(Sadie) that I adopted in March. She is completely deaf and sometimes I’m home for half hour or longer before she even knows I’m there. She has arthritis and I have to carry her up and down the porch steps several times a day to go potty. She pretty much sleeps all day and night. She is rarely awake for more than half hour at a time. But she’s the sweetest and best behaved dachshund I’ve ever had.
Kittens can be little terrors, that’s for sure! I’ve only had adult cats myself, but the former neighbors had a kitten that was always sneaking outside and getting into stuff. She was a cutie though. And your Sadie sounds like a very special dog. At her age, she’s earned the right to sleep all day if that’s what she wants to do! –Marla (aka Paige Sleuth)
Sadie is a very fortunate dog to have the love and care you are giving her. And I can remember when I had kittens who eagerly explored the house just like Bella.
I have two gray tiger cats, Rascal, and Reva. Rascal gets me up at 5 a.m. with soft paw pats to my cheek. Till I get up and let both outside for about five minutes; then both come back in and want to be fed. Which I do then I go back to bed. They curl up and sleep.
That sounds a lot like our routine, except my cats get fed before they go out in the mornings. And Anna Belle will try to get me up whenever she’s hungry, even if it’s the middle of the night. I always make her wait until five though! –Marla (aka Paige Sleuth)
That’s so sweet how Rascal wakes you with soft paw pats. I have a Rascal in my second novel and I’m glad to learn of a real-life Rascal. And I love the name Reva.

I don’t usually post comments on much stuff, but when I saw Dru’s book musing about the “Day in Life – Cat and Dog Cozy Mystery Tour”, I just had to say I really liked this post. When I read my cozy mysteries, I usually only read the ones with the pets in them. You gave me so many great ideas on other authors to read. Sadly at this time I have no pets, so by reading these books, I feel like all of them are part of my life. I want to say thanks to all the authors that write these wonderful stories, they always brighten my day.

My sweet kitty likes to wake me up by sitting on my head. She spends the day watching the birds outside & napping.
Sounds like my cats. Miss Kitty is the birder and loves to be outside. No worries as we live well away from roads and she comes in at night.

I don’t have any pets at this time. When I had my 2 cats, Princess and Tigger, they slept in my bed at night and got up when I did. Anytime I would get on my laptop they would lay on my keyboard and wouldn’t let me type, and if I was working on a cross stitching project they would bat at my thread and try to knock the canvas out of my hand.
They enjoyed curling up in my lap while I was reading.
