Independent Bones by Carolyn Haines (Traditional)
When Dr. Alala Diakos, a visiting professor of Greek literature, comes to teach at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi, it doesn’t take long for controversy to follow. With her fervent feminist ideals and revolutionary leanings, she quickly earns the admiration of many—and the ire of others. During a speech in the park, in which Alala tries to organize the women of Zinnia to demand equal pay, the crowd gets unruly, with men heckling the professor.
Soft Hearts by Eric Lodin (Cozy) *new release*
Harriett “Rett” Swinson is trying to rebuild her life after a failed marriage when a group of Halloween trick-or-treaters discovers her neighbor, retired English professor and poet Wanda Hightower, dead on her porch, stabbed in the back and through the heart. Was her killer a random psychopath in search of blood on All Hallow’s Eve-or one of the neighbors who helped with her lawn’s makeover gone wrong?
Death of a Starling by Linda Norlander (Traditional)
Jamie Forest is a native New Yorker now living in the old family cabin on Lake Larissa in the north woods of Minnesota. She’s eking out a living as a freelance editor. Two years ago, in the small town of Cascade, a school shooting took the lives of three people, all Native American. The news about it died quickly. Jamie Forest decides to pursue a story about it after befriending one of the students who was injured. What she finds is a town cloaked in silence.
Sand Trapped by Joanna Campbell Slan (Cozy)
First they warned Jocelyn Johnson. Then they ticketed Jocelyn Johnson. Then someone murdered Jocelyn Johnson. And Cara Mia Delgatto was looking for a lost ball when found Jocelyn “JJ” Johnson face down in a sand trap. Gave a whole new meaning to “take a drop.” It wasn’t a surprise. The neighbors hated JJ for the reckless way she drove her golf cart. Sure, she lived on the grounds of a swanky golf club, and yes, she had tons of money, but JJ ruined flowerbeds, terrorized grandkids, and made a nuisance of herself.
