Hi . . . I’m Meg. I’d tell you my last name except I DON’T HAVE ONE! At least not yet. I guess you can tell I’m more than a little miffed. You see, everybody in Snowflake has a last name. Lucky’s is Jamieson. Janie, the other waitress at the Soup Shop, is Janie Leonard. Elizabeth is Elizabeth Dove. Even Marjorie and Cecily have a last name – it’s Winters. I don’t know what my author was thinking, but she wasn’t think ing about ME when she neglected to give me one.
I’ve been described as short and plump, with a round face and glasses. Makes me sound like a geek, doesn’t it? And my author has blabbed about my terrible crush on Sage DuBois, the chef at the Spoonful. She can’t seem to keep her mouth shut about anything, that one. Sage is SO handsome though! Of course, my crush is going nowhere. He’s seeing the gorgeous Sophie Colgan . . . hate her! And I heard they might even be getting married, so it’s a no hope situation.
Anyway, I’m putting my foot down. I really need some attention here. Fortunately, my author has listened. She’s giving me some nice little scenes in the fifth book of the series which won’t be out for quite a while, but I can wait. Unfortunately, she’s still having trouble coming up with a last name for me. Can you believe that??? I’ve suggested a few, but they haven’t appealed to her.
So – here’s the deal. My author, Connie Archer, has agreed to seriously consider any suggestions for a last name for me. It’s a contest. If anyone out there in cyberspace who’s a fan of the Soup Lover’s mystery series, or even if you’ve just heard about all of us in Snowflake, Vermont, please, please suggest a last name for me. Please?
If the name you suggest is chosen, you will receive a copy of your choice of one of the three books (so far) in the Soup Lover’s mystery series, and a grateful acknowledgment in the fourth book of the series. Naming contest ends April 11, 2014.
Please?
You can read more about Meg in A Roux of Revenge, the third book in the “Soup Lover’s” mystery series. The first book in the series is A Spoonful of Murder. Books are available at retail and online booksellers.
BONUS GIVEAWAY

I enjoyed Meg’s voice in the blurb about this book. She is quite the enjoyable character. I am looking forward to reading this book. Actually I looking forward to reading all her books. Thank you for sharing this giveaway.
Thank you Melody! I do think it’s time that Meg took more of a part in the goings on in Snowflake. Glad you could stop by!
Love the series. Hey how about my last name..Meg Maddox? Just a thought.
I like that name, Marcy. I’ll add it to the possibles. Thanks for coming by today!
This is a new series to me. I’d love to start reading it! How about Meg Smith! 🙂
Nothing wrong with Smith ~ thanks, Carol. Hope you get to visit Snowflake, Vermont soon!
Well, I love this series and can’t wait to read Roux! The name Meg Munson just popped into my head.
Wow! Meg Munson – this will go on the definite possibility list. Thank you, Linda! I hope you really enjoy your next visit to Snowflake!
Sounds like a great book. Thank you for the chance to win
You’re very welcome ~ and thanks for stopping by today!
need to start reading this series!!!
thank you for the giveaway!!!
You’re welcome ~ I hope you get to visit Snowflake, Vermont soon!
Since my married name is generally unpronounceable, how about a variation of my maiden name (Philpotts) to Meg Phillips.
Both names are good, Linda. I’ll put them in the hat and I’m keeping a list. Thanks for coming by today!

Hi Lilli ~ Pop on back if you meant to leave a comment or a name for Meg.
I love this series, and would get quite the kick if Meg got my maiden name , Hudson 🙂
Hi Kathy ~ I’ll add Hudson to my list ~ thank you!!
Love this books and would love this new one. My suggestion for a last name is in tribute to my mother’s last name Thompson. She was my influence when it comes to reading.
Ah, that’s really special Debbie ~ It’s going to hard to pick one for Meg. I’ll have to ask Dru Ann for help, I know. Thanks for coming by today!
Sounds like an interesting read!
Hi Dina ~ I hope you get to visit the village soon!
This author has a great writing voice. Looks like an enjoyable series.
Hi Susan! and thank you! The village of Snowflake is a place I’d really like to visit myself!
I think my maiden name would fit you just fine–Morrow.
suefarrell.farrell@gmail.com
I like that. It has a certain ring. Thanks, Sue! So many wonderful names to choose from.
The first book on this series was wonderful, but I have not read book two yet, and now with book three out in the bookstores, I need to get up to speed, don’t I? Yes, indeed. My suggestion for a last name for Meg would be Cirrus. Meg Cirrus. (yes, like Cirrus clouds.) Cirrus clouds sound like the description of Meg’s body type. 🙂 I know all about being chubby believe me. 🙂 I am a New Englander too, and with this series set in Vermont, ski country, other last name suggestions are: Meg Ravine, Meg Slope, Meg LeMountaine or LaMountaine, or simply Meg Blain like my married name is. 🙂 Thank you for the contest and the chance to win your latest book.
Cynthia
Hi Cynthia ~ Great suggestions! Thank you! I’ll add them all to the list. Hope you get to visit Snowflake two more times!!
I suggest “Nutt”. Meg Nutt….Nutt, Meg…get it?
Thanks, Cathleen ~ That’s really cute. I must ask Meg what she thinks! After all, Sage the chef is named after a spice. Meg might like that!
Dear Meg and Connie,
How about Meg Byrnes?
It is my maternal grandfather’s last name and Mom’s family comes from New England. Plus I think it suits your passionate nature 😉
Take it out for a spin and see what you both think. I can’t wait to hear which name you choose!
Hi Monica ~ Great name! Plus I like your name too, ‘Welham.’ Thank you!
Thanks – I married into it. Another New England name from Massachusetts! If I ever start writing up yarn patterns, I’m going to call the company “Good Pig Yarns.”
MacDonald, Tobey, Arringdale, Rutherford, Lewis
Wow! So many choices. Lewis might be tough because Janie, the other waitress, is Janie Leonard. Lewis might be a little too close and confuse people. But I love the other names. Thank you!
Yay!!!! Thanks again, Dru Ann!!! ~ C.
THis is a great series…. How about Sterling?
Hmmm . . . Meg Sterling. That sounds really nice. Thank you, Alicia ~ hope you enjoy your next visit to Snowflake!
look like a great read; i hope to be able to read it, thank you 🙂
jslbrown2009(at)aol(dot)com
Thanks, Lisa ~ and so glad you could stop by today! Best of luck!
I like Pelletier for a last name. It just happens to be mine.
Great name, Michelle ~ there are definitely lots of French names in New England. And Sage’s last name is DuBois. Meg might like that ~ thank you!
I assume “Meg” is short for Megan. What about Ames?
libbydodd@comcast.net
Ames is a great New England name. It goes in the hat. Thank you Libby! So glad you could stop by today.
I suggest Meg Makepeace – Margaret Makepeace – a good New England name.
It is a great New England name. Thanks, Annette! It reminds me of old fashioned girl’s names like Patience and Prudence and Temperance. So glad you could come by today!
Sorry about your lack of last name Meg. I’m rather fond of my Mommom’s maiden name Argo. Meg Argo has a nice ring. Also like, Erskine, Naylor and Fisher. Can’t wait to see what you’re up to in book five. I love the time I spend in Snowflake. Aa a mtter of fact I’m visiting there now in A ROUX OF REVENGE. I’ll stop by the Spoonful and say hi!
Hi Lisa ~ I’ll look for you at the By the Spoonful Soup Shop. Sage has some great specials today! And I’m adding all your names to the hat. Thanks for coming by!!!
Since three books have left your “Miss Meg” without a last name, I decided that “Namen” would kind of say it all. My husband said and interesting last name is “Stansbury”. Then again, a soup book–why not “Goya” for the beans that make up 16 bean soup. Maybe she will find a long lost relative from the soup industry in a future book . But you know, anything with soup is good by me !! I just love soup and could live on it year round. Just to mix things up, how about “Scallion” as those art part of many soups too. Definitely want to read these books!! Mystery and soup!!
Hi Ronna ~ I hope you get to visit Snowflake and keep up with all the characters and their adventures. You have some great contributions for Meg. Poor kid, I don’t how she’s been overlooked through three books!
Mine wouldn’t work, hmm, trying to think of last names I know and I’m going blank. How about Meg Elliot, McDonough Mangan? Thanks for the chance to win, hang in there Meg a last name is coming.
Meg is very grateful for all these good choices. Thanks, Debbie! All your names will be added to the hat. Best of luck!!
This sounds like such a fun series. I need to get going on it. Thank you for the chance to win. I’ll softest something short and sweet – how about Meg Lee?
Hi Mary ~ Short and sweet is a great idea! It will go on Meg’s list too! Thanks for stopping by today!
Well, being in Vermont, you could work off of Ethan Allan and the Green Mountain Boys….Ethan, Allan, Green. Having family from up East, could be Northway. But, I like the suggestion of Morrow and Phillips better!
Some great possibilities here, Sue Ann! Those are all great New England names. Northway’s inspired though. They’ll all go in the soup pot for a drawing (if you’ll pardon the pun)!
There’s something to be said about alliteration in names and I like a lot of the above suggestions. I’ll throw in some more in the culinary range: Thyme, Cook, Potts, Graham, Pepper, Quinoa, and Parsley (would go well with Sage). And one more after a friend: Sheridan. This is fun. Thanks for the giveaway, Dru, and the contest, Connie.
You’re welcome, Judy! Best of luck and these are all great choices. So glad you could come by today for the contest! Thank you!
Haven’t started this series yet, but bought the first book last week. How about my married last name Mason or my maiden name Sinnett.
Oh, I hope my reply got to you ~ It was separated from your comment. I’ll definitely add both Mason and Sinnett to the list ~ thank you!
Meg lends itself to numerous possibilities. I like Meg McPhetres, but that is already quite common in Vermont. Maybe Meg McLeod?
McPhetres sounds very unusual, is that common in Vermont? Both are very interesting. Meg McLeod has a nice alliteration! Thanks for stopping by Judith!
Oh, those are very nice choices. I will definitely add them to the list. Thank you! Hope you enjoy your visit to the village!
The physical characteristics you describe sounds like younger version of my grandmother. Her maiden name was Westervelt which is Dutch for West Field. I think you should go with Westfield. Meg Westfield would be a great name.
Hi Lori ~ Both names are very neat! They’re good choices. Thanks for coming by today!
Hi, I don’t see my thoughts here yet so how about Creighton, or Leary, or Duffin, or even Boyd.
Neat names! Thank you! You’ve got it, I’ll add those names to my list. Thanks for coming by and commenting today!
Thanks everyone for commenting and helping give Meg a last name. Thanks Connie for interacting with my readers and letting Meg have her say.
Hi Dru ~ Thanks so much for hosting this contest today! Meg will be very very grateful!
Thanks Dru for this opportunity.
My suggestions are Sheldon, Baxter, or Wexler. I’m on book #2.. Really enjoying the series!
Thank you! 🙂
Hi Hillary ~ Thanks for stopping by! I will definitely add these names to the list. So glad you like the soup lover’s mystery series!
My suggestion is Hansen. Meg Hansen.
kaye.killgore@comcast.net
Hi Kaye ~ Great choice! I will add to the list. Thanks for stopping by today!
I guess you can’t go with her being Greek, and naming her Meg Alopolis… Can’t wait for #4!
Well, I don’t think that would work because Meg’s a country girl. I’ll ask her though! Thanks for stopping by today!
I haven’t read your books yet. The series is new to me and can’t wait to start reading them. I am another New Englander too. Here are my suggestions of my family last names: Andreano, Varey, Findly, Hazard, Brayley, Wise, Riley, or Roberts.
Hi Elisa! Great to hear from a New Englander! Those are some great names, thank you! I’ll definitely add them to the list. Choosing just one for Meg will be very tough. I hope you get to visit the village soon!
Wow, there’s a lot of good ideas out there! For some reason, Meg Cannon popped into my head. It seems strong and has a good amount of syllables! Thanks!
What about last name Winn. Meg Winn sounds like a good name.
I think Meg Campbell. ☺️
Hi Lisa ~ Campbell’s a really nice name. I will add it to the list. Thanks for stopping by today!
The bonus giveaway contest is closed, but continue to post last names for Meg as that contest continues till April 11.
