Chapter 11 – Serena rides off with Rim-Fyre to think about all that has already happened and what is to come.

The whooshing sound of heavy wings beating the air broke the quiet. Serena looked up to watch a giant bald eagle alight with a soft rustle in the pine tree not far from her. The eagle was imposing, regal and watched her with great intensity. Rim was unaffected.
Serena shivered, not from cold but from the sense of something that was about to happen. Perhaps in reverence, Serena stayed kneeling as she kept a close eye on the eagle. Serena could feel the eagle in her heart and mind, talking to her, as if it were an everyday occurrence.
Pelipa, my daughter, lover of horses, lover of all animals, I am Sky Spirit. In the coming days you will grow in spirit in ways that you never thought possible. You must always stay close to the spiritual truth or terrible things will happen. You will gain the ability to see hidden spiritual truths and the knowledge of magic. Before you leave this place you must accept a gift from the Old One. In return you must bestow a gift upon him, to show your respect and gratefulness for his vision. The majestic eagle turned his beak to his tail feathers and plucked one white tail feather and dropped it to flutter softly to Serena’s knees. Then he turned his beak to his right wing and plucked one dark wing feather and dropped it to land beside the first. Give the tail feather to the Medicine Man as a gift. Keep my wing feather close to your heart, to remind you of spiritual truth. It will give you the speed of an eagle in flight. Farewell Pelipa. The great wings spread wide and the magnificent bird hopped once and flew off to the west into nothingness.
Serena blinked and her mind was clear of the eagle’s thoughts with his departure. She looked down at her knees at the two eagle feathers. One dark and one light, she gently picked them up, felt their warmth and tucked them gently into her shirt for safe keeping. Did that really happen? Am I dreaming? Something special just happened. The eagle called her Pelipa just as Peenaquim said earlier and an eagle had indeed come to tell her something. Serena wasn’t sure just how she felt about that yet.

I will look for this in print. E-books don’t get read, because I spend too much time on this computer as it is and I want to read a real book in a chair or in bed. Thanks, Dee
I would LOVE a copy…all I do is read.(don’t like video games, reading as I tell my children “enhances the mind”), that and makes me forget the wheelchair at times! 🙂 I appreciate the opportunity to be a able to be in the contest.
