Bird, Bath & Beyond by E.J. Copperman is the second book in the “Agent to the Paws” mystery series. Publisher: Minotaur Books, coming October 9, 2018

Kay Powell, theatrical agent to non-human animals, is babysitting―that is, birdsitting―her client, a parrot named Barney, on the set of his new TV show, Dead City. When the show’s charismatic star is shot in his trailer between scenes, the only eyewitness to the crime is―you guessed it―Barney. And even though Kay keeps explaining that even a “talking” parrot doesn’t actually converse with people, the investigators insist on interrogating the bird for information he clearly can’t communicate.

Suspects accumulate like birdseed, and before long it’s clear the killer believes Barney might actually be able to supply useful evidence. Even Barney can’t fly away from this one.

Barney is a witness to a murder, but can he caw his way to identifying the killer? That is what awaited me in this delightfully engaging mystery where the author had me enthralled and intrigued in all aspect in the telling of this tale.

This was a well-written drama that grabbed my attention immediately, quickly becoming a page-turner as I had to know what was going to happen next, especially their interrogation of Barney. I love the way the author plied suspects upon suspects with clues that was meant to have me go in one direction, especially with the twisty turns, but when the pieces fell into place, I knew which direction would lead to the identity of the killer and I enjoyed watching it all play out on the pages. It amused me so the dialogue between the various cast of characters and Barney. Again, this is a fun book to read and I look forward to more tails (get it?) with Kay and her animals.
