Slay in Character by Lynn Cahoon is the fourth book in the “Cat Latimer” mystery series. Publisher: Kensington Books, coming November 27, 2018.
Staying in character can be murder when Cat Latimer and the members of her writers’ retreat head for a ghost town . . .
Cat and the members of her writers’ retreat have just arrived in Outlaw, Colorado, an “Old West” tourist town complete with inhabitants dressed up as famous figures from history. But this authentic slice of Americana takes a murderous turn when a college student masquerading as a 19th-century saloon girl becomes history herself.
Was she the intended target? Or did she take a hit meant for someone else? With a cast of suspects to choose from—including some notorious gunslingers and the sleazy town founders—Cat must unhorse the real culprit before a real-life ghost story is given a killer twist . . .
This is what of my favorite series from the author as the protagonist runs a writer’s retreat where solving murder mysteries is a by-product of their activities. In her latest session, a young woman’s death sparks a catacomb of incidents that makes it clear who the killer is after. What is the motive? Well you’ll have to read this book to find out.
I love the author’s writing style which makes this fast-paced and action-packed drama easy to follow. All the characters are fully fleshed out, even those who drop by for their week stay. The author has a way with the narrative putting me in the center of all that is going on with engaging dialogue and scenes that are visually descriptive. This is one of the best books in this series and I can’t wait to see who stops by at the next retreat in this delightfully entertaining series.
