A Chicago PI teams up with her former partner to protect a celebrity from a deadly stalker.

Vonda Allen’s vanity magazine has taken the Windy City by storm, and now she’s on her way to building a one-woman media empire. Everybody adores her—except the people who work for her. But who’s sending her flowers with death threats?

As Vonda’s bodyguard, off-duty cop Ben Mickerson could use some backup—and no one fits the bill better than his ex-partner, Cass Raines. But when two of Vonda’s staff turn up dead, Ben and Cass are suddenly locked in battle with an unknown assailant. And when Ben is attacked in the media chaos of a public appearance, Cass is left to find out what secrets Vonda is keeping, who might want her dead, and how she can bring Ben’s attacker to justice.

Dru’s Musing:
All I can say is wow. This book captured my attention immediately, quickly becoming a page-turner. Like fine wine, this series gets better with each book written. In a tightly-woven intense drama, the author tells a story where nothing is left to chance. Expertly written with descriptive narrative and engaging dialogue, this drama played out like a movie being watched and I had to know how this will all end. Strongly based on the heroine, we watched how she painstakingly gathered clues that was not given forthright by the “alleged victim” and with a small field of suspects, the author did a great job controlling what we, the reader, was given. Superbly executed, it was the little things that once came to be known, gradually completed the piece of the puzzle, but it was that last piece that blew it all away and I was like “wow.” Good job. This is one of the best in the series and I can’t wait to see where we go next with Cass and her friends.
