Thirty-four, newly divorced and parenting two little girls, Jan Weatherly is determined to make it on her own doing what she knows best: do-it-yourself home flipping. With her BFF Pam Bacchus by her side, she purchases their first fixer-upper—a cute Craftsman cottage with quick profit potential in rainy Rainier, Washington. With the first swing of her claw hammer, however, Jan pries back faux cedar paneling and reveals a nude, snow-haired corpse floating in a makeshift aquarium.
Dru’s Short Musing:
Jan and her BFF will do almost anything to save their fledging business when a body discovered puts their investment on hold.
This was a fast-paced and well-written drama that I could not put down, quickly becoming a page-turner as I had to know what was going to happen next. The mystery was nicely done with enough suspense and intrigue to keep me immersed in all aspects, from the discovery of the body to the women’s determination to solve the who, what, where, and why in this puzzling case. The author gave us enough clues and backstory to follow along with the protagonist and it was fun watching all the pieces fall into place the more the story progressed. Overall, this was an enjoyable whodunit and I can’t wait to see where we go next with Jan and Pam in this delightfully charming new series.
