Fatal Fantasy by Jane Tesh

Series Name: Grace Street Mystery #8
Genre: Traditional
Release: January 2022

In this eighth book of the Grace Street Mystery Series, PI David Randall and his psychic friend Camden are ready to enjoy ExtravaganzaCon, a week of science fiction and fantasy, when two people are murdered in the convention hotel. One of the victims is skeptic and debunker of all things paranormal, Sean Snyder. The other is Iris Hudson, ill-mannered author of the popular Dark Star series. To find the killer, Randal must deal with a lofty Faerie Queen, a disruptive Batman, a trio of fierce warrior women, and an artist whose horrific paintings may hold a clue to a fantasy world that has become all too real.

Dru’s Short Musing:
This was a well-written and all-encompassing tale that grabbed my attention quickly. The tone was very comfortable making it easy to follow along with what the author intended. The mystery was nicely done with a small pool of suspects, showered with clues that kept me glued to the pages. The narrative was visually descriptive, especially with the setting taking place during a sci-fi convention and engaging dialogue that made me feel like I was part of the action-packed drama.  I really enjoyed the growth of the characters and the ensemble they portray as they work to solve the murder as well as their other cases. The author does a great job blending the many subplots that kept me intrigued throughout. Overall, this is one of the best books in this pleasantly appealing series.
