Granite Oath by James M. Jackson

Series Name: Seamus McCree Mystery #7
Genre: Traditional
Release: August 29, 2022

On a Thursday afternoon, Kat Serrano leaves work early, briefly returns to her remote trailer deep in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula woods, and drives off with no explanation to her family. Two days later someone ransacks the trailer.

Kat is a Dreamer, and her mother won’t talk to the police for fear she’ll be deported and lose her 8-year-old granddaughter, Valeria.

Valeria is devastated by the events. She and her best friend from summer camp, Megan McCree, employ a “Pinky-swear” to get Megan’s grandfather Seamus McCree to learn what happened.

Seamus uncovers a tangled web of drugs, prostitution, and dummy corporations, and soon finds himself the target of killers. Anyone sane would wash his hands of the mess or turn it over to the police.

But Seamus has given his word, his granite oath, to learn the truth . . . even if it kills him.

Dru’s Short Musing:
A pinkie swear has McCree on the search for a missing mom.

I was immediately immersed in the telling of this well-written and fast-paced drama. I loved the short chapters which made it easy to follow along with what the author intended. The author set the stage with a solid plot and an intensifying mystery that I couldn’t put down, quickly becoming a page turner. Trying to protect his granddaughter and her friend, McCree enlisted others to assist in the search which opened a web of deceit involving a multitude of mischief and mayhem, and the closer McCree got to the truth, the more the pieces fell into place, which someone wanted to keep status quo. Chasing villains while playing hide and seek kept everyone safe but also put McCree in the crosshairs giving way to a confrontation that had me glued to every minute detail until all was said and done. Everyone had a pivotal role in the apprehension of the person responsible in this dynamic mystery. I especially enjoyed the interactions between Seamus and the girls. This is another great book in a terrific series.

FTC Full Disclosure – I received a digital ARC of this book from the author.
