USA Today bestselling author Catherine Bruns is back with the third installment in the “delightfully sweet” Maple Syrup Mysteries, transporting readers back to the cozy town of Sugar Ridge, Vermont, where things are bound to go from sweet, to sour. It’s Thanksgiving in Sugar Ridge, Vermont, and Leila Khoury, manager of Sappy Endings Farm, is ready to usher in the holiday season by hosting a pie-baking contest. The day is meticulously planned, from the judging panel to the maple lattes, and Leila can’t wait for the entire town to enjoy some sweet treats.

Dru’s Short Musing:
Another fine visit with the Khoury’s as murder takes a bite. When a customer dies after eating one of the pies, Leila does all that she needs to clear her name and protect the family business.

This author knows how to tell a story that encapsulates every emotion from beginning to end. With a well-written whodunit and visually descriptive narrative, I was immersed in all aspects with its comfortable tone making it easy to follow along with what the author intended. The mystery was nicely defined with suspects, clues, and red herrings baked in the verbiage to keep me engaged throughout. I enjoyed how the characters played off each other and it was fun watching it all come together as the suspect pool dwindled. The family dynamics added to the suspenseful nature of this finely tuned tale. The pacing was on par with how well this story was being told. Overall, an excellent read.
