When defense attorney Sally Castle agrees to do a favor for an old friend she thinks the case will be simple: present the appeal for a murder conviction and the work is already done. But the more Sally looks into the facts of the case, the more problems she sees. Did sloppy police procedure result in the conviction of an innocent man?
Dru’s Short Musing:
Like fine wine, this series gets better and better with each book written.
When Sally and her partner help a friend with an appeal, it is not as open and shut as they think, especially when looking for an elusive witness. Jim has a murder to investigate where it is hard to pin down who the victim is. Once again, Sally and Jim’s case become entangled in this action-packed mystery that had me immersed in all aspects in the telling of this complicated drama that exudes to be told. I love the author’s style where the tone is comfortable, and writing is crisp. The mystery was nicely executed, keeping me engaged from beginning to end. I like how the partnership between Sally and Tanelsa balances out the role they play in deciphering the truth. There were several plot points that changed the direction the author was leading me to, and wow…good job in staging the end. This is one of the best books in this long-running series and I can’t wait for more exciting adventures with Jim and Sally.
