There’s a new sheriff in town, and local reporter Audrey O’Connell has already gotten off on the wrong foot–er, boot–with him. A recent transplant from Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Chattertowne, Washington’s handsome new Police Chief Cole Loveland has been brought in to restore community confidence following the scandals which had rocked City Hall and resulted in the firing and/or incarceration of several prominent government officials.

Dru’s Musing:
This was an intriguing whodunit that I could not put down, quickly becoming a page-turner as I had to know what was going to happen next.

The author did a fantastic job in the telling of this tale where mischief and mayhem are afoot. As I didn’t read the first book in the series, I had no problems connecting with the characters and the activities that were profiled in the first book as the author did a fine job in giving me enough of the backstory to stay focused on the story at hand. I like the author’s writing style with its comfortable tone making it easy to follow along with what the author intended. The narrative was visually descriptive with engaging dialogue and a very small-town atmosphere which made it feel homey.

The suspect pool was essentially most of the secondary characters where the clues were evident, but one had to gather them all together to make sense of who had the stronger motive. There were a few red herrings, one I didn’t see coming, but enhanced my reading pleasure. I enjoyed the relationship that Audrey has with her friend Holden and the new chief Cole and at one point I was thinking I don’t like love triangles, but the author did a good job and setting it up because I think I know who I want Audrey to be with and I think the author may be leaning the same way I am which will make for great set up in what I hope is the next book in the series.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable story, and I look forward to more adventures with Audrey, Holden, and Cole in this pleasantly appealing series
