Crime with a Slice of Cherry Pie

Cherry enthusiast Whitney Bloom is furiously baking her way into the heart of Chicago with her fabulous cherry pies when she receives a desperate call from her mother. The annual Cherry Blossom Festival has just kicked off at the Cherry Orchard Inn in Door County, Wisconsin, and the manager of the Bloom family orchard has been found dead beneath the cherry blossoms. Worse yet, all evidence points to Whitney’s father as the killer. After she races home to help, things really land in the pits for Whitney when she discovers that Jack MacLaren, her old high school nemesis, is Cherry Cove’s only police officer. Putting her cherry-tastic treats on hold, Whitney matches wits against Jack. But will she have what it takes to clear her father’s name and sift out the real Cherry Cove killer?

This is another gem I found after reading the author’s post that will be featured on my blog. We are introduced to Whitney Bloom who made a major faux pas in the advertising business and is now selling cherry pies online. When her father becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a family friend, Whitney heads back home ready to find a killer.

This was an enjoyably fun book to read that I could not put down, quickly becoming a page-turner. The comfortable tone and writing style made it easy to follow along with all that was happening within the pages. The pacing was on par with how well this story was being told from first meeting Whitney to Giff, who I love, to Jack to Tate to Hannah and to Tay. All played pivotal roles that added to my reading pleasure. The author did a great job in presenting a well-defined mystery that kept me engaged in every aspect – from the many suspects to the clues that helped narrow down the field and to the comedic interludes that had me chuckling. A few surprising twists and turns kept me on my toes and I loved it. Whitney is a gutsy and determined heroine that I want to call my friend. She is surrounded by a wonderful cast of characters and with witty repartee and a small town-atmosphere, this debut is a welcome addition to the cozy genre and a great start in a delightfully charming series.
