Battered by G.P. Gottlieb is the first book in the NEW “Whipped and Sipped” cozy mystery series. Publisher: D. X. Varos Ltd, August 6, 2019.
Alene Baron is the proud owner of Whipped and Sipped, a café that offers healthful, delectable food and drinks. Her life consists of dreaming up new recipes, raising her three children, and arguing with her ex-husband–until her neighbor and close friend is murdered. She imagines nearly everyone she knows as a possible suspect. After a second attack, Alene is determined to find the true killer . . . before she, or her family, become targets.
In this debut series, we are introduced to Alene Baron and her friends. In the course of this drama, we learn the back history of the people involved through the eyes of Alene which played a part in the telling of this tale. I liked the comfortable tone and the pacing that made it easy to follow along with the visually descriptive narrative. The author did a great job staging this mystery that took many paths and with one strategically-placed twist, the murderer was revealed with the why. Boasting an eclectic cast of characters, engaging dialogue, and delectable recipes, this was an enjoyable read and I look forward to reading the next book in this pleasantly appealing series.
I like to start with new series so that there are not a lot of books to catch up on first. This sounds very interesting so I’ll look into ordering. Congratulations to the author.
