Now You See Her by Merline Lovelace is the second book in the “Samantha Spade” mystery series. Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime (Penguin), May 2010

These high-tech shades are to die for.

If there’s a new line of equipment coming in for the military, it has to get through USAF Lieutenant Samantha Spade and her techie crew first. When Sam tests the latest experimental goggles, she spots a sniper aiming for Sergeant Diane Roth. Sam manages to warn Diane, who takes out the assailant with her SUV. Then the shooter is unmasked, and his target realizes they served together in Afghanistan.

The media trumpet Diane as a hero for preventing injury to innocent civilians, but she credits Sam with saving her life. As high-level investigators begin to show up, however, and troubling incidents from Diane’s past are revealed. Sam begins to wonder if there is more going on than meets the eye.

Samantha is at it again. Testing an equipment without her team and in the process she foils a shooting attempt. I really enjoyed this book because the author led us down many paths to the mystery and we had to ride it along with Samantha as she discovers what really is going on. Once I started reading, I had to finished it in one sitting. My rating: 4 stars
